^^^ I totally agree with the NIN and RATM statement.
But then again I would probably be the only person wanting the guys on stage to start talking politics (If Rage were the band playing)
I enjoy it when people talk politics on stage. I think it's important. It really bugged me that people whined about Wayne of the FLips talking so much last year. I found what he had to say not only interesting, but completely relevant to what's going on right now
It's not being close-minded to say you don't like something and think it's a bad choice for a headliner. It's honesty. I tried to get into Tool last year and it just wouldn't click. I went to the show, and left after an hour unmoved by it. Honestly, I think Metallica gargles balls, and I don't plan on seeing them. And honestly, I think NIN or RATM would've been a much better choice
So making up your mind and then not allotting any room for change is not being closed minded. Got it
No. It's not. Not liking something and knowing your not going to enjoy it is not being close minded. I know I don't like vegetables. Therefore, I know I won't like their taste. I know I don't like any of Metallica's music (note that I didn't say that I didn't care for it, but I do NOT like it). I know I won't enjoy the live show. Why waste my time when I can get a good spot for a show I really wanna see? (And it's looking like there'll be plenty of late-nights I want to see)

So many people complain about people talking politics, or talking about "serious stuff." It's sad that it's cool not to care anymore.
Also, to call me "close minded" is also inaccurate because I really do like several types of music. Death Cab is one of my favorite bands. I can't wait to see Yonder Mountain. I can't wait to dance to MSTRKRFT. I can't wait to rock out to Mastodon and The Sword, and chill out during The Swell Season.

Karma. Karma. Karma. I feel the same way. I know some people who think that it doesn't matter who you vote for, because things will turn out the same or it doesn't affect them. Short term, it might not affect you, but long term it will. I also tell people who believe that to think about how much different it would have been if Gore or Kerry had won. Well, Gore did win, but you get the idea...
And we need some Obama, in my humble stoner opinion. His speech on race was the bee's knees. That's my man. And he said he'd appoint Gore as the head of environmental issues (I forget the term, but you know).
When Rage was at their peak in the mid-90's they opened up for U2. Not exactly headliner material if you ask me.
Haha... you mean like Pearl Jam did that tour too?
Um guys, there's plenty of room for us all to have a festival or two. I'm encouraged by how different Lolla and Roo are even run, nevermind the difference in the experience. That significant difference allows them to coexist no matter the lineups. Lineup envy doesn't help either show.
Lollapalooza's recent incarnation is the Chinese Buffet of all your favorite foods. Bonnaroo is the Thai diner that takes forever but even the most obscure thing on the menu that you've never tried is incredible.

alright summerteeth, i'm sorry i called you closedminded... the point I was trying to make is that maybe metallica will change some people in a positive way at the farm, therefore not making it a bad choice for the festival, just maybe a bad choice for you. I hold no grudge against ye, and appreciate your wide range of music taste. and ditto on the pro-speech snazz. apathy is a b!tch

hey i love bonnaroo, but lollas my hometown festival, sorry if i got a little overzealous...
anyway, I think that Lolla is really, really underrated in terms of overall atmosphere. Sure, it's not an overnight camping festival with 24 hour music. But after the music ends at 11 every night, you find yourself right in the heart of downtown chicago with so many things to do. Trust me guys, you would love it.
Finally, I still maintain that Lolla has an, albeit slight lineup advantage over Bonnaroo even though I ended up being slightly dissapointed with the middle-tier bands.

this ;D
this is true, I'm going to both fests and couldnt be happier.

Apology accepted. Metallica's just not for me, but I get what you're trying to say.
As for apathy being a bitch, word. Karma for you also
And I agree with what people are saying. They're both diverse. It's hard to say which is more diverse than the other, so let's just let both be considered on equal planes. Lolla did get better headliners, but, and not to contradict myself, they don't have a jazz tent, or a burlesque tent, or a comedy tent, or late night shows. I guess each festival provides something different.
Edit: I would also like to say Bonnaroo did a hell of a job with the cafe acts this year.

Since I'm not going to be able to make it to both festivals I thought I would see when/where Radiohead, NIN, and RATM are touring. I got excited when I saw Radiohead was going to be in Cleveland this summer. Well it's sold out already! Unbelievable.
if you google "metallica sucks", there are a few links to an essay contest run by a newspaper: "Why Metallica Sucks". The kicker is, all the links are dead because they are from so long ago. if that isn't irrelevance, i don't know what is. acknowledging their long history of sucking is not "closed minded". roo's lineup overall is definitely superior though, imo. lolla just doesn't offer too much after the top tier. gnarles barkley needs to play roo immediately.
i still dont get how people say lollas undercard is weak, have u listened to any of those bands. just because a band might be new doesnt mean they cant be amazing.
maybe i just have to bring my ears in for a tune up

Roo's line up is just so deep... no matter that two of my three favorite bands are headlining Lolla, Roo truly does it for me with it's, yep, diversity.
