Well, I was under the impression that "Robert Randolph's Revival" was some kind of Bonnaroo exclusive project. But apparently that's not that case. There will be a Robert Randolph's Revival show at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey, DE . . . before you get too excited, if you're going to Bonnaroo, you probably aren't going to this show, it's on June 11th.
So yea, I have mixed emotions about this. First of all, I'm angry. The Bottle and Cork is the last place I saw Randolph, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen him do. Not to mention that venue is great, and small. But of course, I can't go. I suppose I shouldn't be mad, as I am seeing him two days later, but nonethless . . .
I suppose this show will serve as a tune-up for Bonnaroo. I'd be really interested to get in contact with anyone who is going to this show, so I could get a heads-up on what kind of guests to expect.
anyone have any speculation as to what Robert Randolph could possibly have up his sleeve besides the possibility of an appearance by clapton!?
I know even a lot of his biggest fans were getting bored with robert randolph. there was a forum that used to be linked off his official site but is not anymore. A lot of the regulars were complaining that every time they see his show he pulls out all the same tricks. I guess maybe he heard the critics and he's trying to re-do things a little bit?

I wouldn't say that "a lot of his biggest fans" were getting bored with him. There was a forum that used to be linked off his official website. A few people (not many, and certinaly not his biggest fans) complained about his most recent album "Colorblind," as well as the repetitiveness of some of his live performance. I, however, find their claims somewhat unfounded. Is Colorblind an incredible album? No. But Randolph is more know for his live performance than his studio work. I consider myself one of his biggest fans, I've seen him 6 or 7 times in the past two years alone, and I don't think his live shows are repetitive whatsoever. I mean seriously, there are a lot of performers who play virtually the same show every night. Every single time I've seen RRFB I've heard at least one song I've never heard them do before. So I don't think that the "Revival" is really any attempt to address any critics - as they were few and far between.
I will say this about Randolph. I went to many shows of his between 2003-2007. I saw a New years Eve show. I was at the Bonnaroo late night show in '04. I saw him open for Dave Matthews Band. I saw them headline many shows. I can honestly say that they were my favorite touring act at one point (most likely around the '04 Bonnaroo set). They had the magic for sure. Then during the latter part of '06 and the beginning of '07, they lost it (in my opinion, of course). Part of it was due to the new album's songs being lackluster. Part of it was that the live show became "tired" and losing energy. However, I am excited to see what this new project has in store.

You are SO lucky. I was trying so hard to see that show last year but the venue is for 21 and older . Poor me. At least I'll see them at the place I heard of them this year.
This man came up to me just the other day, asked me I'd been born again. I told him, "I didn't think I had." That I had been rejected. But I think, Hell's got all the good bands anyway. And Bonnaroo.
i might just make a weekend of it in asheville, since i'm not going to roo this year. i am already seeing plant/krauss in asheville on that sat. then pearl jam in columbia on mon.
. Poor me. At least I'll see them at the place I heard of them this year.
