My buddy Nate was at the first Bonnaroo and quite his job to do so. I can still here him saying "Lowe's won't give me time off..what? Bonnaroo is life(altough this was the 1st one) The most memorable moment was him in his tye-dye long johns in the middle of shakedown, freaking out on boomers and running as if he and Scooby had seen a ghost. Anyways, we miss our Nate. He will be serving in Iraq for a year and of course will be unable to attend. Although you'll may not know Nate you probably do. Everybody has " a Nate" in their group of friends. Just picture some wild loooking guy running down shakedown in tye-dye long johns with his Bonnnaroo hanging out, doing nothing but smiling and running somewhere... Now, you no him
Please write him, regardless and send him some stuff.legal stuff He would love it send to: Sgt. Nathaniel Lanham 1-150 C.C.O, 30 BDE 1 ID OPeration Iraqi Freedom FOB Rough Rider APO AE 09392

If we were going to send a care package, what would he like and/or find useful? Surely there's all sorts of little things that folks could send to make his and his friends' lives easier while they have to be over there.

I have a Nate...his, name's Mike!
Yeah, he's in "the heart of Iraq" as of a month ago (so obviously we have no real clue where he is). He can't speak for everyone, but his wishlist was like this:
*baby wipes *lotion *soap *ibuprofen *burnt cd's *any small snacks that will KEEP *any other "good ideas" we have
so people have been sending him out care packages, but as his friends we really don't get the first hand information. it generally comes from his family, to his ex g/f, to so and so, on to so and so, and eventually it gets to me!
scares the crap out of me everytime a "local soldier" is killed.
i have to hold my breath until i hear a name or where they're from.

To follow up on the care package tip, for anyone who wants to do more than a letter or postcard:
I asked my care package question of another friend who knows someone in the Gulf and the immediate response was: "Socks! Send socks! The plain, white, athletic tube-socks kind."
Apparently clean comfy feet are hard to come by in that part of the world. Go figure.
Also, just about any personal hygene stuff is good, not just what was listed by aquariumdrunk.

With my first package I was unsure about what to send. I sent him some Girl Scout packages, incense, a crystal, a Keller Buzz sticker(which my wife and I created the first Bonnaroo) he's a big Keller fan. Also a journal and a dirty sock. The dirty sock is an inside joke. This package was more of a morale booster than anything but i do plan to send the necessities. I found out he is stationed, for the time, 100 miles north of Baghdad on the Iranian border to intercept militant smuggling arms. I hope he stays there. This too is a very important job. I really think it is awesome that people plan to write him. This will make his day. Today April 16 is his 26th Birthday. He loves the dead and any jam band mainly, so I’m sure he could use some more cd's along with what has been mentioned in the previous replies. Again, this is great of you guys you all deserve a high five. When at Bonnaroo I plan to make a card and have as many people that want to sign it do so. Anyways, thanks again
just a lil insight on the military nida...keep the details to yourself. you would be suprised how people can take info like this and piece it together to do something terrible. my husband is in iraq right now too...so i know what you are going through missing a loved one. i will put together a lil package for your friend, i am going to burn some shows for him, hopefully thay will fit his tastes. you just gotta tell yourself he'll be home soon and before you know it he will! ~Steph
