You are stranded on a desert island with a decent stereo for the rest of your life and you get to bring 5 CD's. What are they?
For my purposes, I won't include multiple CD sets or live recordings that aren't offical releases, but feel free to bend the rules for your own selections.
I have two discs that are no-brainers for me: Nina Simone: Nina Sings the Blues and Blackalicious: Blazing Arrow
I have to pick a Bob Marley CD, and my favorites over the years have included Babylon By Bus, Talking Blues, Catch A Fire, Burning, Exodus, Survival and a variety of pre-Tuff Gong recordings, but in the end I will have to go with Natty Dread.
Phish is second to Bob as my biggest musical influence so I will want to represent them. On any given day I could choose the first disc of Junta, Lifeboy, Picture of Nectar, Rift, or the studio recording by TAB, but overall I think Story of the Ghost is my favorite disc of recorded music by Phish.
My fifth disc is really a miscilaneous category. Some of the candidates would be: Paul Simon: You're the One or Rhythm of the Saints Talking Heads: Remain in the Light or Stop Making Sense Beatles: Revolver, Rubber Soul or Abbey Road Funkadelic: One Nation Under a Groove Beck: Midnight Vultures Johh Coltrane: Giant Steps, Love Supreme Charles Mingus: Mingus Ah Um Jaco Patorious: Mingus or epynonomous Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser Ben Harper: Fight For Your Mind Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland Sugie Otis: Inspiration Information Keith Jarrett: Koln Concerts Police: Zenyatta Mendatta Radiohead: Kid A Sun Ra: Space is the Place Frank Zappa: Does Humor Belong in Music? Digable Planets: Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) Erykah Badu: Mama's Gun or Live The last few weeks it seems like Ween: Quebec and David Byrne: Grown Backwards could be in there but I'll have to give those time. (If nothing else this is certainly a list of extremely cool album titles)
After difficult consideration, here are my five: -Nina Simone: Nina Simone Sings the Blues -Blackalicious: Blazing Arrow -Bob Marley: Natty Dread -Phish: Story of the Ghost -Stevie Wonder: Fulfillingness' First Finale
I'd probably end up trying to hang myself with the stereo cables if I was stuck with only 5 albums forever, but to get back to the bright side...
Radiohead -- OK Computer Wilco -- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Rolling Stones -- Sticky Fingers Belle & Sebastian -- If You're Feeling Sinister Beach Boys -- Pet Sounds
If you ask me in 15 minutes, those choices will probably change...even as I'm typing this my mind is changing...

This is really hard! I guess if I had to pick just 5 cds they would be: (in no order) Phish-Lawn Boy Norah Jones-Come Away With Me Bela Fleck & the Flecktones-Live at the Quick Almost Famous Soundtrack Grateful Dead-Skeletons From the Closet(I'm not sure if that's the name of it but it's something like that and it's one of their greatest hits cds)
Phish--Live Phish, Volume 7 Dave Brubeck Quartet--Time Out Bob Dylan--Bootleg Series, Volume 6: 1964 Bob Marley--Babylon By Bus Richard Pryor--Anthology 1968-1992
The Almost Famous soundtrack would have been my sixth choice. I love the Beach Boys song on that album. I chose Richard Pryor because he's one of the funniest comedians ever and doomed on a desert island, I would need some laughter.
Pink Floyd-Darkside of the Moon Bob Marley-Confrontation Led Zeppelin-III Sublime-40oz to Freedom Radiohead-OK Computer I really hope I have a bigger cd case than this, if I ever do get stranded.
um....a couple of them are doubles, so I'm choosing which half I want to make it fair... Talking Heads--Sands in the Vaseline (Disc 2) Outkast--The Luv Below Beth Orton--Central Reservation Billy Joel--The Stranger (Yeah, I know, I'm a huge dork, but I can't help it. I've always had a soft spot for Billy Joel) Jimmy Buffet--Songs You Know By Heart (Another guilty pleasure....but I only have five albums for the rest of my life; I'm going to need some variety)

Phish- A picture of nectur RRFB- Unclassified Atmosphere- godlovesugly Blind Melon- Either cd both are great MMW- last chance to dance trance (best of 91-96)
I'd have to pick a variety for different moods. This doesn't represent my top 5 of all-time...
MMW - Uninvisible or Combustication I'd flip a coin. Nick Drake - Pink Moon Phish - Story of the Ghost Pink Floyd - Meddle Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - I Love Peanut Butter (a classic!)
This could and probably would change if you asked me 10 minutes from now.
