So I read on CNN yesterday that Pink Floyd is doing the Live 8 show in England on July 2nd. Roger Waters in tow. First time in 21 years that the original Pink Floyd(minus Syd Barret of course) will all be on the same stage together. So this raises the question, will there be a full fledged reunioun tour in the near future?
As a huge fan of Roger Waters and a non-fan of post-Waters Floyd, I have no desire to see this. Waters has an amazing body of solo work and incorporates as much of the Floyd stuff as he chooses to perfectly into his shows already (check out the In the Flesh DVD), while in my opinion, the rest of the band has been making a living on his songs for 25 years (does anybody really listen to Division Bell anymore?).
I applaud them all for getting together to raise some money for this great cause, but I have no desire to see it go any further than that and my (completely uniformed) guess would be that Waters would feel the same way.
I saw Roger Waters, the last time he was around, and it was an amazing show. And I agree that the post-Waters Floyd stuff is pretty mediocre, at best, but come on. This would be the REAL Pink Floyd. If they toured the US I'd seriously quit my job and follow them wherever they went. I highly doubt that it's going to happen, but one can dream. The light show alone would be worth the price of admission.
I've heard some crazy stories from friends that went to the Pulse tour, and how no other show has ever topped it. To have Waters and Gilmore side by side again, would be the most spectacular thing to happen to music in a long time, IMHO. I think it all depends on how this Live 8 show goes. Maybe a headliner for B-roo next year(ok now I am dreaming).
