any one buy phish tickets?

I'm waitin till I get there.
Payed like $40 each last year and you could buy them for $20 in the lot.

I got mail-order for Camden. Finally won a ticket through that damn lottery after 5 tries. Got a lawn seat. Figures.

I tried yesterday morning for the Brooklyn shows, but Ticketmaster screwed me, surprise surprise. I had two tickets, and then when I clicked [continue] to pay, an error popped up and I lost them. They must have sold out in minutes. That was my only hope. Tear.

I'll see enough of them at Bonnaroo, and I'm still hoping for that VT Festival in August. Fingers crossed!

I got two each night on the grass at SPAC. A buddy of mine got 4 each night of the SPAC run. He got shut out of Brooklyn too, though.

Still, what a way to come off Bonnaroo--two nights of outdoor Phish. ;D

Haven't seen 'em since Darien Lake, in a furking monsoon, on that last pre-hiatus tour.

June is going to be lots of fun...

You know, it's really funny. I'm so conflicted about that show.

It started off killer with a great big 'Punch You' and I sez to the (now) missus, "Hold on to yer head. They're gonna tear the ROOF off. They know we're out here in the slop and cold-a$$ rain. They're gonna bring on some rockin' dancin' tunes."

And then they played slow, pretty, meandering jams for about an hour. It was pouring so hard you couldn't hardly keep a smoke lit. Water just coming down in buckets. Downpour. When I opened up my pack of smokes (which had been in a shirt pocket INSIDE my jacket) at the set break they were not only wet, but I actually poured an ounce or two of water out of the pack.

Now the future Mrs. JayFromRochester looks at me, shivers, and says she's ready to go. "Hang on, kiddo," I sez. "They'll come back in a minute. And when they do, they're gonna open 'er up. Once you're dancin' you'll be fine."

They come back and you can hear all of us out in the yard take a collective breath and get set to shake off the rain and mud. People were like sprinters getting into the blocks before a race. We all had the same thought. 'C'mon boys, we need one here.'

And they played...Drowned.

They're #&$@' with us! Toyin' with my emotions...

As they jam into Cross-Eyed and Painless I look over and see that my girl's lips are blue and she's shivering uncontrolably. A real storm trooper, she's not complaining, but she might burst into silent tears of pain and frustration at any moment.

Screw these guys, 'cause they're screwin' me. We left. The first and only time I've ever left a Phish show early. We went back to the truck and warmed up and dried out a little. We listened to the rest with the window down and the heat on. In hindsight, I think my girl was probably as close to hypothermia as you could get without actually requiring some attention from the med staff.

I remember being furious that they chose that particular night to try slow and pretty when that crowed needed to RAGE to keep warm. And I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Just sub in a good Bouncin, or Sparkle, or Harry, or Down with Disease and it really would've been different.

But that was four years ago...

I've got the CD now and I kind of like it. It's beautiful music, in most places. Some of the jams are kind of dead-ends.

But it's hard to know what to tell people about that show. It was the last time I saw them. When you hear it, it's pretty nice, but thinking back, it wasn't much fun at all.

I guess that's why I was so excited to get tix to this run at SPAC. It was the first place I saw 'em. (My second show ever, just a couple days after The Grateful Dead in Albany in '95.) I know they're going to be as wonderful as they were in Albany a few days before that Darien run, or in Niagra Falls in '95 or so.

Mrs. JayFromRochester, however, has elected not to go. Darien was her first and only Phish show, and she's not interested in another, thanks very much.

...And that makes The Jay a little blue.
