Nerds of the world, I am your KING!
Among my nerdier tendencies:
--An abiding love of all things trivia. The more practically useless the knowledge, the more interesting. Did you know, for example, that threads of a spider web have a greater tensile strength than steel cable of the same diameter? It's true...
--A lifelong love affair with National Geographic (for the articles, though the photography is pretty good too) and a more recent one with Utne.
--Glasses. Looking back at old pictures of the Jay is like a virtual tour through 20 years of what NOT to do with eyewear.
--I had absolutely no interest in sport whatsoever. This has changed slightly when I was 19 and realized that televised football was a reason to wake up early (at 12:30) on a Sunday and begin getting drunk again. (Go Bengals!)
--A footlocker chock full of Dungeons & Dragons books, dice, character sheets, DM guides, maps and assorted crap.
--In school I liked math, loved biology/anatomy/physiology, and found AP physics to be painfully simplistic.
And finally,
--You good folks have read 70-something of my posts on this list. Surely you realize by now that I have that certain social awkwardness commonly associated with thick glasses and pocket protectors. A nerdy 'Je ne sais quois', if you will...

i'm a complete nerd, or maybe a dork i don't know. i was an omer for two years and i love lord of the rings movies and i love harry potter, i read order of the phoenix in less than 48hours......after dressing up and going to barnes and noble to get the book at midnight after ordering it in advance. but i don't know if that makes me a nerd or a dork
I have not seen any LOTR or Harry Potter's. I don't have a working computer at home and haven't since 93'. I've never watched Star Trek or any of the other shows affiliated with Star Trek. I don't own a video game and never have. I don't read books, only sports mags (disc golf world news). I have never worn glasses, built anything electronic or fooled with gadgetry.
BUT I POST ON THIS BOARD ALOT, so I am a self proclaimed Dork ;D
It's not that I wouldn't like watching any of these movies or shows, or fooling with computers all the time, I just haven't yet. One day I will sit down and rent all of the LOTR's and watch them with my wife and we "WILL" both be addicted, but we haven't yet. Just don't have the time with 3 kids. My daughter has seen all the Harry Potters and reads the books, but I fall asleep while watching them on TV due to the fact that sleep is a precious commodity in our household and I will crash out as soon as I am able to. One day I will buy a computer for my daughter and I'm sure I will be on it more than anyone in our house, but for now I will just use my time while getting paid for working to post on this great board.
Timochee, I'm ever-looking forward to drinking a brew with you; my wife and I alternated reading the Harry Potter books to our two kids -- and I couldn't tell you what happened in any of them; I solved our lack-of-computer-and-internet-access-at-home problem by giving my 13-yr-old $5k, saying "solve it" (he has); and I can't WAIT until the Olsen's next video!!!!!!!
I hear ya timochee...I can't really imagine what it'd be like to have a wife and 3 kids. That's a world and a half away from mine. If you are a fan, at all, of the LOTR books, I'd recommend waiting till ROTK extended edition comes out and watch all 3 extended versions. I think they are much better than the regular editions. Much more depth of the characters and relationships and they are alot closer to the books. Each one is like 4 hours long though, so sleeping may take hold.
