Before and after the roo my girlfriend and I are planing on staying in Nashville for a day. I was wondering if anybody knows Nashville and knows of some cool things to do there. All we have planned so far is to go the Grand Ole Opry. We are looking to do the tourist thing or just see some beautiful things, go to a cool country bar, or if you know about a good restaurant let me know. My girlfriend is a vegetarian but the restaurant doesn't have to be vegetarian. I personally wouldn't mind going to a great BBQ place. So please let me know, any and all suggestions are welcome.
Definately check out the Parthenon if it's your first time in Nashville. www.nashville.gov/parthenon/ It's a nice park and a good place to take pictures. As far as BBQ in Nashville, no restaurants come to mind... you may check nashville.citysearch.com/ though. It's got the downlow on restaurants and other activities (the included maps can be pretty handy too).

Hi there, Nashville has a ton of cool stuff goin on! I visited a friend in October, but unfortunately, came down with a bug that left me in bed most of my trip. Anyway, I've been informed by a nice hunk of people that the Cheekwood Museum & Botanical Garden is worth a visit: www.cheekwood.org/ There's some plantations you could check out: Belle Meade and Andrew Jackson's house both aren't too far out of the way.
As far as food is concerned, there's a sweet-ass farmers market you might want to check out. It's open everyday, and right next to it, there's an indoor area that has some small grocery stores (Indian) and eateries (falafel, carribean, etc): www.nashvillefarmersmarket.org/ There's a cool little bar/restauraunt in East Nashville that has a few veggie options. The fried avocado and fried corncakes are pretty tasty (if not bad for you!), and the salad was fresh :http://www.alleycatlounge.com/menu.htm If you want to hit up a coffeeshop, try Bongo Java. (They serve food as well). My friend's boyfriend works there, and they only have good things to say about it: www.bongojava.com/beans.php?content=bongo
If you don't mind heading downtown and putting up with the tourist scene, BB King's on 2nd street has the BBQ along with good music.
The famous country bars are right down in that downtown area on Broadway - the Stage is usually the most popular, but there are tons of hole-in-the wall types of counrty places right there and they'll have live music going close to 24 hours.
A younger (20-something) country bar is on demonbreun st. around 14th, a little away from downtown - the place is called Tin Roof. I've happened to see some musicians there from time to time (Robert Randolph, Bully Currington) as well.
Also, if you're going to the Opry make some time to stroll around the opryland hotel - it's seriously one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever been inside - it'll be worth checking out and its right there next to the opry. Of course, if you're talking about the original Opry location, then that's Ryamn Auditorium (they do tours) and thats right downtown.
Let me know if you (or anyone else) has any Nashville questions, I hope this was some help -
for reeaaalllly good funk, on Wed. night go down to 3rd and Lindsley around 10pm (show is listed as starting at 9:30 and it's good to get there at that time to have a little more option about where you wanna sit). The Wooten Brothers and Friends play. For sweet rock'n'roll with a Latin twist - head to The Blue Bar on Division - also Wed. nights, starting at 9pm. A very nice restaurant for melt-in-your mouth meals with Southern flare (though no bbq that I know of), head to Cabana's. I'm at 3rd almost every Wed. night, and if I'm not there it's because I'm at The Blue Bar. Two places with talent and atmosphere that make it worth going out.
oh yea, i did really like the greenhouse bar.....it's a bar that's actually in a greenhouse, with rocks on the ground and what seems like lawn furniture inside.....the actual bar runs right through the middle of the room, and there's a swing, a water fountain, and a couple of flat screen tv's hanging from the roof.....it feels like you're hanging out in someone's back yard.....we met the nicest folks there
windows on the cumberland was an awesome place for hippie folk.....great music, laid back people.....tucked away and hard to find
