Where's my Phillies fans? Who else is tired of losing all these games, by 1 run lately. What's the deal? We really need a revenge sweep against the Brewers this weekend. Oh and one more thing, Chase Utley is my master. He's a dreamboat.
right here....i too am tired of 1 run losses, and a shaky bullpen (besides Flash), and No lead off man, and a right fielder who is afraid to play defense, and a manager that cant put a sentence together, and ownership that doesnt spend, and a catcher who is expensive and bad.
the phillies are like a summer long punch to the groin..and i keep coming back for some reason.

I will be at the Tigers game tonight. I hope I can break my streak of watching them lose when I am in attendence! (I am 0-3 this year with loses to Cleveland and Cincinnatti at home and a lose to the Angels on the road)
And for those Tigers fans (or even baseball fans in general) on here, I thought this was a pretty funny article when I came across it: www.theonion.com/content/node/48405

It hasn't been quite so bad this year. If they can keep from falling too far behind the Mets and keep the Braves at bay, we might be alright. Then again this IS the Phillies we're talking about. Chase will save the day.
i too am tired of 1 run losses
Hey guess what. The Phillies lost. By one run.....AGAIN. D@mnit, it's like a disease. D@mn these Brewers. D@mn them.

RyHo gets picked off at third, in a tie game, 1 out, bottom of the 9th...wow.
2 1/2 games out? Nosir, I don't like it. The White Sox have not been playing bad lately but are losing ground to Detroit. I'm working on my father, trying to haggle away his "good" tickets for the first game of the Detroit series in two weeks. I'm really starting to look forward to that series.
I did the rotation math and here's how the pitching matchups for that series would fall out assuming consistent five man rotations between now and then:
Tue. 6/6: Robertson vs. Garcia Wed 6/7: Verlander vs. Contreras Thur 6/8: Rogers vs. Garland
That decides it for me, I'm getting Wed. tickets. Freddy was going really good until yesterday, so I'm not sure about that first matchup, and Rogers vs. Garland is a mismatch right now (Garland is the one starter on the Sox who really hasn't gotten it going for a significant stretch yet).
Rangers fan here, we look pretty good here in the AL West, been to a few games... Millwood has to stop being so inconsistent and well be a lot better off. BTW if any of you fans of the great game want to meet some morning before the bands start at thr Major League Baseball area drop me a line.

So are you guys really shopping around Blalock? I guess the Detroit radio stations were reporting Detroit has shown interest. I woudn't mind it, especially because the Tigers could really use a left handed batter and Inge would be the perfect utility man, but I just don't know what we'd have to give up.

The Sox have won something like 20 out of 25, right? I'm just as frustrated as you....Detroit literally can't do any better than this, and they're barely increasing their lead.
Verlander really is something. I'm sure he's eventually going to hit the wall...160 innings is the most he's ever pitched in one year...but I just love the way he pitches. He's one of those guys that is ready to throw the next pitch as soon as he gets the ball back from the catcher. That's great for your defense. Plus, even though he's a flame thrower he doesn't just rely on strikeouts to get people out. He has very good command of the strike zone and isn't afraid to let the opponents hit the ball and let his defense do their job.
Yeah, I'm pretty excited to see Contreras vs. Verlander if the rotations hold up. I bought two cheaps seatst to the 6/7 game, and might try to trade them for a decent single if I can't get anybody to go with me. I don't pay enough attention to really make this claim, and of course Contreras missed two starts, but I think Contreras and Verlander might be the two best pitchers in the AL this year to date (?).
After pouring over some stats, I'm convinced: Detroit and the Sox will slip a touch soon, and Cleveland is going to jump right in there. It's going to be a great race.

No, the rumor is not that we are shopping "The Hammer" That was some what of a rumor in the offseason but Texieira and Young would have none of that. The west is looking a little mediocre record wise. We gotta get this game tonight against the A's who won't stay cold for long.
Ouch. The White Sox have stopped hitting the ball. At least the Tigers took a breather while the Sox hit their little skid. The Indians will definitely be in it by the end of July. I didn't realize Maroth was out until I checked ESPN this morning. One advantage I think the Sox have is that they basically have a legit sixth starter in McCarthy for the inevitable injury.
The Sox tickets I've had for about 10 games a year are right by the right fielder, and it was such a pleasure watching Magglio play iver the years that I can only wish him the best. I'm not sure if he is up to his peak performance in terms of defense and baserunning, but that guy is just one hell of a baseball player when healthy. Of course now I'm loving JD's tenure in Comiskey's right field, even if he's no Magglio-in-his-prime.
My Verlander vs. Contreras tix are the perfect thing to tide me over between now and Bonnaroo (I'm still working on getting my dad's Tuesday tix).

Yeah, Maroth being out sucks especially considering how great he's been pitching this year, but Zach Miner will be taking his place and he tore it up in AAA, so hopefully he does ok. If that doesn't work out they could always take Zumaya out of the pen - he's been a starter his whole life....or they have a guy in AA, Humberto Sanchez, who has some hype and is putting up ridiculous #'s. 63ip, 42hits, 77k, 24bb, 1.84era
Maggs started a touch slow, but he has been their most consistent hitter overall. He still looks a little stiff when running, but is at least average to above average in the field. Solid, solid player....I pray he stays healthy.
Hopefully Verlander can bounce back and keep up with Contreras. That guy is an absolute beast!

Well, the White Sox recent suckiness and the Tigers recent mediocrity has taken some of the lustre off of the series that starts tonight, but I'm still pretty excited. I won't be going tonight but will be there tommorow (turns out I'll be missing a Man Man show to do it ).
It's a projection of how many wins you would expect/project for a team based on runs scored and runs allowed and turns out to be a fairly good predicter of a teams future performance. If their expected record is better than their actual, they've been "lucky" and will likely slip a bit, if their expected record is worse, they've been "unlucky" and will likely improve.
The Tigers and Sox still show up as 2.5 games apart, both with records one game better than they "should" be. The Indians however, "should" be 3 games better and a mere 4.5 games out. Interesting.

Most of the Chicago media seems to take it as a given that Detroit will fade away (of course now they are bailing on the Sox because they had a bad week) but I don't think they will.
The Tigers have allowed 218 runs, and the next best American League total is the A's with 253 (then the White Sox 256). Being that most of the league is between 250 and 300 runs allowed, that 35 run difference between Detroit and the second best team is huge. Detroit team ERA: 3.64(!) 2nd best in AL (A's): 4.25 This probably means two things: 1) They have to be for real to put up numbers that huge and 2) They will probably drop off a bit because it would be nearly impossible to maintain that kind of pitching dominance for an entire year. Since their offense is middle of the pack (definitely not bad), I think they are definitley legit.
I think the Central is shaping up as a classic race, with the league's best pitching team (Detroit), one of the leagues best hitting teams (Cleveland), and the more balanced and experienced champs duking it out. Although its less likely every day, I still don't think its impossible for Minnesota to jump into the fray with a lights-out pitching run of their own.
Have fun at the game! Can you believe how badly the Yanks demoralized the Sox yesterday? You don't see scores like 13-5 often, well other than in little league games.
