So, I'm sitting here listening to the Jackie Brown soundtrack and thinking about how Quentin Tarantino is the master of soundtracks. Between this one, Pulp Fiction, and Resevoir Dogs, it's hard to pick a favorite.....but, in the end, it's got to be Pulp Fiction. Anybody else have a favorite soundtrack?
All three that you mentioned are excellent (although I must admit I've never listened to the Jackie Brown one, just saw the movie)
I think the Garden State soundtrack was amazing, as I was a big fan of the Shins before that movie even came out. Although I must admit that the mainstream success of that soundtrack makes me hesitate to proclaim it as one of my favorites, but what the f, it's great....
And you're right, it seems any film Tarantino is affiliated with has great, ecclectic music.
I also think that any Wes Anderson movie (Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums, etc) or PT Anderson movie (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, etc) also has very memorable music...
more so than "soundtracks", I love scores/instrumentals for movies, and one of my very favorites is the music for Requiem for a Dream, which is a very haunting/beautiful blend of big orchestra and electronica....
this is a thread i could waste a lot of time thinking about... damn you Hilari
I thought about Magnolia, but it's almost just an Aimee Mann cd, so I didn't list it even though I love it. I didn't think about Boogie Nights, though. That's a great one! It's kind of silly, but I really love that one song. Don't know the actual name of it, but the one that goes "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key...."
I've never heard the one from Requiem for a Dream, but I bet it would be good, too.
Yeah, the Magnolia soundtrack is what really got me into Aimee Mann, and now she is one of my favorite artists....
speaking of Magnolia, it's one of my favorite movies. But an interesting thing about that movie is that it seems people either really love it or really hate it. I'm in the really love it camp
I'm definitely in the really love it camp as well....I like all the PT Anderson movies. I think it goes Boogie Nights --> Magnolia --> Punch Drunk Love --> Hard Eight (been awhile since I saw this one), but I think they are all good!

Pretty sure its called Brand New Key.
I definitely like The Life Acquatic (both the Seu Jorge and the other one) and High Fidelity.
Punch Drunk Love is my favorite PT flick. I think Jon Brion is involved in most of the scores for both Anderson's flicks, so I'm curious to see him at the Intonation festival this summer.
Because I can't discuss film without making some obnoxiously obscure reference to something noone cares about: My favorite "soundtrack" (as opposed to score) is probably to a Taiwanese movie called Goodbye, South, Goodbye:
The star of the film (Lim Gong, whose performance I find captivating) is apparantly a big Taiwanese pop star, and he does the soundtrack. It's kind of techno-y, kind of cheesy Asian pop. I just love it. I spent years trying to find a copy of the soundtrack through the internet, record stores, etc. but eventually gave up.
I loved the Snatch & Trainspotting soundtracks. I like that the music isn't what you'd expect to be in those movies all the time (plus Lou Reed's "A Perfect Day" is used in one of the best music/movie fusions ever in Trainspotting).
Kampy you said you liked Garden State; you should check out the Scrubs soundtrack. They share a lot of the same feel, and the whole show utilizes music very well.

It's kinda older, but I still love the "Singles" soundtrack, its got some great tracks on it. (alice in chains, pearl jam, mother love bone, soundgarden, mudhoney, pumpkins, hendrix, westerberg, etc.)
A few other really good ones: The Crow, Good Will Hunting (elliott smith!), O' Brother where art thou, Wonderland, and you absolutely can not forget Dazed & Confused Vol.1 & 2.
The Legend of Charlie Birger I Am Sam Dead Man Walking Ballad of Ramblin Jack
those are a few that are im my disk changer at this time. legend has it my grandfather sold shine to the birger gang. if you like alt country check out the Woodbox Gang a local southern illinois band good stuff.

its alla bout any darren aronovsky film, pi, requiem... clint mansell rocks. i also enjoy as a non-score soudtrack the singles soundtrack. the two pearl jam b-sides on it kick my ass
must watch while the movie plays- its an old german silent film and this album was constucted in 2003 to accompany it
i believe garage a trois has done something similar recently
Man with a Movie Camera is one of my favorite movies (its actually Russian). I did some searching and found the CD on Amazon. I will probably try to check this out at some point. Amazing album cover:
I have a DVD of the film with a score by The Alloy Orchestra. They annoy me sometimes, but I think their MWAMC score is one of their best. Great commentary track on that disc as well.
Bill Frissel has done some soundtracks to Buster Keaton shorts which I am eager to check out.
requiem for a dream has a bad ass sound track but its really repetitive techno music still though i love it..... but i might have to say resivor dogs...... mabye
