I'm trying to get a job in Atlanta, and right now I am checking out apartment listings. I'm curious about some of the different areas in town. Such as, does anyone know anything about East Point, GA? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
East point is decent, but it might be a little bit on the sketchy side. It has good highway access but it all depends on where you are going to work. I suggest living in the city (somewhere in Midtown, little five, highlands, even downtown) and that way you are usually going the opposite way of traffic even if you work in the burbs. Rent might be a little more pricey but you would probably save 20 minutes to an hour each way in your commute. The apartment market used to be great for renters (some places were giving out three free months) but it has started going the other way. You can still get some good deals though if you look in areas that have overdeveloped (like midtown). I know about this stuff because it is my job (commercial appraiser). When you are looking at apartments make sure to ask for a deal and also make sure you know what if any utilities are included in the rent and if they are going to charge you for parking. Some places include water and sewer where others do not. When I was in a one bedroom apartment my water/sewer bill was generally $50.
But getting back to your original questions, actually east point due to its central location would not be a bad place to start. But dont forget about looking into midtown, highlands, little five points, downtown, brookwood, brookhaven areas. All of these are located in Atlanta and you will probably feel more associated with the town. There are plenty of websites that should be of some help and you should not have to pay any brokers fees. If you need some more help you can shoot me a message.
