So obviously this isn't a problem at roo, but does anyone know if Camelbaks (or any other portable hydration unit for that matter) can violate "open container laws" (assuming they have alcohol in them)?
The reason I ask is because I'm going to mamoth end-of-school-year block party tomorrow. It goes on every year and the cops have gotten really uptight about it. Basically, if you're on private property you're fine, but as soon as you set foot on the sidewalk or street they'll snatch you up if you have an open container. I want to fill my Camelbak up with liquor and feel like they can't touch me. Thoughts?

just hid the tube and they wont see it, plus I really dont think it can be considered an open container. I mean if the bite valve is closed its not open right?
i think that it would be considered an open container because a water bottle with the lid on is still open. after you open the factory seal its considered open regardless of what you put it in

Yea, thats what I was thinking about. I mean, I'm not too worried about it, but I don't want them to stop me on some technicality. Like I'm sure they would stop a kid crossing the street with a nalgene, so why not me? I'm not going to be stupid about it, sucking on the thing while I cross the street of anything. I agree tho, where's attornaroo on this one?

I've brought my Camelback for the last two years now. In all honesty, it really depends on the person at the security check. Most of the time, security will just let me pass through, but sometimes I would get the jerk who make me dump whatever was in my Camelback out on the ground, even though it was just water.

Man if they follow Police protocol they have NO right to stop some dude carrying a nalgene in ANY situation unless they were directly led to beleive that it contained alchohol (reasonable suspicion).. If you had a camelbak full of booze it would be illegal for them to check the contents unless you did something that gave them reason to beleive that it contained alchohol...
