I'm kinda shocked that a thread hasnt been made already for the draft. Not many football fans on these forums maybe? I on the other hand am a football nut. I love the draft since it gives some type of tie over till the season begins.
So what do you guys think of the draft so far?
Only at the 16th pick right now but i mean jeze!! Matt Leinhart goes to the Cardinals!!! They will be sick this year. Reggie Bush now also with the Saints. This is going to be one crazy year in the NFL.
I am also a huge football nut. I don't have cable so I can't watch the draft. I'm a little surprised that Leinart didn't go the Titans.
Really surprised that the Broncos took Cutler. I wonder if Cutler is going to battle for the starting job in his first year or is expected to learn from the bench.
The Cardinals still don't have a running game and I don't think Leinart will start over Warner this year.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

I've been watching it since noon....I'm a Dolphins fan, pretty happy with the Jason Allen pick. My best friend is a Tennessee Volunteers fan so I've known all about Allen since his freshman year. He's a great DB, probably a top 10 talent, but he had a dislocated hip his senior year and that probably scared some teams off. But, he did run a 4.41 at the combine (he's 6'1" too) so it looks like he's good to go.
There has been some crazy stuff though. I really can't believe the Titans with Norm Chow as offensive coordinator passed on Leinart. Vince Young hasn't run anything besides the veer offense in his whole life. I'm not saying he won't be succesfull, but I would feel better with Leinart.

But Leinart has to feel good about his situation. I know Arizona are perrenial losers, but with a veteran QB to study under, RB who can run and catch out of the backfield, and probably the best young group of WR's in the NFL with Bolden and Fitzgerald, he should be able to succeed.
Well now that the first round is over what does everyone think. Suprise picks? Big steals? Shocks? also predictions for the 2nd round?
I am kinda shocked that Lendal didnt go in the first rounds. Same with guys like Chad Jackson. I think the Giants should of grabbed a DB and not a DE since they have 2 probowlers there now as is but hey that is just me.
It's sort of...boring, I guess to have the Bears trade down, but I guess it seems like a good move. I think we picked up the safety in the second round who people were talking about taking with the first round pick. Mainly I'm just glad Reggie Bush didn't end up in the NFC Central.

I would have been a whole lot happier if Bush hadn't wound up in the NFC South... Glad the Panthers picked up a decent RB with Williams. Hope we go for a linebacker and tight end with the next two picks.

First, it doesn't surprise me one bit that the Texans passed on Bush or the Titans on Leinhert. I think the Rose Bowl exposed a lot of problems with both players. One, Leinhert is a pocket passer, and without a good offensive line, he's not gonna do well. When the Longhorns put pressure on him, he was pretty ineffective. On the upside, he doesn't try and force things in the middle of the field like Vince has the tendency to do at times. Overall, I think he could be a really good quarterback for the Cardinals, but I think he would be David Carr or Tim Couch for the Titans.
Second, Reggie Bush IS NOT a #1 draft pick, and the last thing the Texans need to worry about is skill players. They need defense and they got it (hopefully). And in my opinion, Reggie Bush is rated awful high for a guy who hasn't shown he can carry a 25 carry a game load or turn the ball up field and take hits on a consistant basis. And while guys like Bush can make big plays for a team with no offensive line like the Texans, they can also be prone to getting smashed by quicker much quicker defensive players.
With Mario Williams, the Texans get a guy who can instantly improve their defensive line and relieve pressure off the secondary. And with Vince Young, the Titans get a quarterback who might be the best mobile decision making quarterback I've seen since Steve Young. But like Steve, it just might take a little time for VY to meet his full potential.
For the record, I'm a Cowboys fan. The only thing that would've made me happier is if we'd managed to somehow snag Michael Huff to play free safety. But that's wishful thinking and Carpenter and Fasano aren't bad picks for the Cowboys. Now I'm hoping we pick up some offensive line prospects in the later rounds.

Thank You! I'll admit i thought he was going to Texas as well but when things unfolded i knew why instantly. People asked why go to a place with a solid back in McAllister? Well he plays on and off and now he can take his few plays off when he needs to and it isnt like a bad player is coming on or off. There is a new wave with teams using a dual RB system and with a new great QB like Brees and two great RB's and some great recievers, the Saints are looking pretty good right now.

I agree. Looking at those top 4 picks, I can't criticize any of the teams picking. The Texans needed defense. The Saints probably needed Mario Williams more than they needed Bush, but adding Bush gives them a perfect combination of skilled players needed. They might be the only top 5 team who Bush actually makes sense offensively. And while the NFL says the Saints will stay in New Orleans, if they do end up moving to Los Angeles, I cannot imagine a better lineup of guys than Brees, Horn, Bush and Deuce.

Why would you say that? The Cardinals have a horrible offensive line.
fuck, now i gotta root against santonio, hes definitly a player i dont want the stealers to have, good move on their part though, bastards. and ya capenter is a beast, hes seriously very close to being just as good as hawk. and the mario pick suprises me, i figured they would find somebody to make a halfway decent trade.

How bout them Eagles... getting the two guys they wanted in the first round w/ Bunkley and Justice (who slipped to 39)
love those picks... as well as Gilles (All-American Guard from Georgia) and Avant (WR from Michigan)
and an olyimpic skier taboot
only problems = LB still a ? mark... they are hoping that kid from Cal Poly Tech can play and Omar Gaither was a decent pick and.. no FB??? come on birds we need a quality fullback
Well i can say the draft has made me more excited for the upcoming season. Time to see how these picks do as well as the un-drafted free agents. First Roo then Football!

I was really shocked by how well the Eagles drafted. My guess is that their focusing on getting back to title contention by the 2007 season while McNabb's still in his prime. I don't see them contending next year for anything more than a playoff spot just cause how strong the NFC East is. But yeah, great draft.

The Birds had an absolutely awesome draft! I loved the Bunkley pick, I was suprised to see him still there at 14. There were talks about the Eagles moving up into the top 10 to try and snag him. Also the Winston Justice pick, I don't think anyone thought he would fall to the second round.
I really liked the Avant pick too, he's a good possession receiver, not much speed though. They're gonna need to get a vet receiver for a year or two because Reggie Brown isn't ready for the #1 spot yet - but he will be.
You're right about the linebacker situation though...but then again, with how good the defensive line looks to be, the LBs don't have to be spectacular or anything. Trotter is still awesome, Barber is a good player, and Dhani Jones is a big question mark. I wish I could find out more about how Matt McCoy is progressing though, but he also declared a year early so he's still young. Not to jump ahead too far, but I'd love to see them get Paul Poz from PSU somehow next year - he might not fall to us at 32 though!

Avant could be a great #2 or 3 receiver. You're right, he doesn't have speed, but he has the ability to make the tough catch and he isn't afraid to go across the middle. He had just one or two minor cases of the drops in his career at Michigan, but overall he has very good hands and has the strength to run after the catch. Great blocker too.

Holmes is a good receiver. He'll definitely be a good fit in Pittsburgh. You like the Bengals, right?
It is a damn shame Palmer got hurt on the first play of that game. It could have been a great one.
It is a damn shame, cause the friggin Steelers would have lost, and Bettis would have never gotten his ring, Cowher would still be scowling, and all would be right with the world. Sorry I got a little carried away there.
Yeah, the Eagles did alright with the draft. Although I really wish we could have gotten Jevon Walker. I'm not liking our receiving core a whole lot. We'll have to see how these 2 rookie WR's do.
