What was it that Thom Yorke said about upper middle class white people liking Coldplay? Coldplay started out as Radiohead-lite and have since moved onto U2-lite. I cannot say they make bad music. But I can say they make fairly middle of the road, vaguely worded pop music that proports to be about something deep but in actuality is about being a happy upper class white hipster who sometimes thinks about how sad it is there is hunger in the world while eating their $15 vegan plate with their $5 cup of anti-oxident laced tea. I do like the video for "The Scientist" though....
If someone gives me their CD folder with a Coldplay CD, I'll import it. If I come accross a song on the radio, I'll leave it on. If they come to Mexico and I have free tickets, I'll go see them. In other words, I don't mind Coldplay, but wouldn't spend money on them.
No, but I did go see them. They were alright. Thier light show is pretty amazing, but I definately wouldn't go again. There were an astounding number of beautiful females in the crowd though. Kinda like a Dave show, only less guys.
I used to really really dig them... but I'm now pretty much over them. I still like the music, but it just doesn't grab me anymore. Last year at Coachella, we left Chemical Brothers early to go see Coldplay on the main stage. We ended up back with the Chems about 30 min later...
they are ok live, the crowd is horrible (but that was expected going in). i think sometimes they get a bad rap, and sometimes they deserve it.
they have some really good stuff ( clocks, politik (which is spectacular live) they also have ALOT of pop stuff that i am not really into.
i am definately not a hater, but i dont go nuts either..i consider them more of a guilty pleasure.
I gotta say... I don't think they're bad enough to be a guilty pleasure. For me a music guilty pleasure is much more sinister, like Christian Aguliera or Justin Timberlake. Those little buggers get in your head... you hear them in a couple stores, or somewhere public, it gets into your head, next thing you know you spontaneously burst into song.... and you like it that dirty song has done that to me...
