Anybody else notice a break in between 6/16 and 6/19? Yeah, I'd be doubting that, but it's a nice thought.
I haven't listened to Rogue Wave yet, but I've learned over the last few months to trust people on this boards immaculate taste by getting into a lot of bands that I heard of here first. What intrigues me most about that news item is the possiblity (virtual certainty?) that they will be added to the Intonation Festival lineup on 6/24 (The Stills are already there).
That said, I have to say that of all the bands I've checked out from the Pitchfork Festival and Intonation Festival lineups, The Stills might be one of the ones that has intrigued me the least so far (I've probably listened to 100+ new bands since the Bonnaroo lineup revolutionized my musical taste in February, so everyone doesn't always get a fair chance).
Is Rogue Wave similar to The Stills? What should I check out?
Nope -- RW are pretty different from the Stills. You're right, the Stills are fairly goddamned boring.
Rogue Wave craft perfect pop music with a strong sense for melody. Everything from power pop, to synth driven pop, to lo-fi acoustic pop...etc, etc, etc,. They can pull it all off. Personally I think their most recent album, Descended Like Vultures, is their bright point thus far. It shows them expanding, but also highlights the wonderful lo-fi nature of their debut lp.
Edit: They're fun live -- so yeah, definitely give 'em a whirl!
Oops, just realized that Intonation is the 24th and 25th and the Chicago tba date for the Rogue Wave is the 23rd. Still a possibility I suppose for them to be added to Intonation, but far from a "virtual certainty". It's not likely that I'll head to a Stills show the night before Intonation (I'm just hoping I'm recovered enough from Roo for Intonation), but I will definitely check out Rogue Wave based on your guys' reccomendation.

I really like the stills. The new album is very different from the first one. If you found the first one "boring" (which I really don't like as a way to desribe a band) you might like the second one. It's a bit more upbeat. The first album is not really poppy, it requires the listen to pay a bit more attention.
I saw Rogue Wave open up for the Shins several years ago but I don't really remember much of the performance. They do have a similiar sound to the Shins.
The comparisons to the Shins are inevitable. They do have a similar sound, and they're both on Sub Pop. If you haven't listened to them yet, I'd say get both, Decended Like Vultures and Out of the Shadow. They're both very very good. They will get stuck in your head.

Well when the shoe fits my man!
Also, I own that first album and really did try with it. It's pretty generic, samey, lacked anything memorable on most tracks, and was...well...pretty boring! In my opinion, they're one of those bands that was rushed to the forefront, prematurely, during the whole "rock revival" thing all the labels were firing at us a couple years back. I'll probably give a listen to the new album -- that album I was so bored with had enough little glimmers of promise to make me curious.
I kind alike the Stills- but then again I found them on a trip to Montreal two years back and they were the perfect soundtrack. So it was very situational.
