this was an incredible time. the nelson ledges quarry park is an amazing place. its a beautiful place to begin with and all of the people there make it that much better. everyone there is friendly. everyone there is into the music. no drunken frat boys or not a very nice persons or anything. its like its the best of roo without the bad element. the entire vibe reminded me of roo but better. this year at roo after 4 am it was pretty dead. people scream and holler and party 24 hours a day at nelson ledges. my friend had atleast 30 people throughout the campground doing little john at 6 am. right after that we got about 20 random people to start whistling "whistle while you work" it was awesome. there are trees everywhere. you can sleep till whenever. no 7am wake up call from the sun. we took the kids and they had an awesome time. i picked my son up from his moms house on thursday and he had the worst sunburn i have ever seen. i was so mad. it did put a damper on things and cause us to miss alot of music but we all still had an awesome time. dark star orchestra was crazy good. i will be going to see them alot more. rusted root was great. i didnt have high expectations from what i heard about their roo show. but they were great. we sat on the beach and listenend while the kids played in the sand. they had all sorts of fun for kids. this dude broke the record for lighting himself on fire. they had sky divers. the kids built all sorts of glow stuff. they made a cool alien that my son draped over himself and made it look like it was dancing as we went dancing throuhg the latenight drum circle. everyone was tapping eachother on the shoulder to look and he was doing his best to mess with them. this dude started building a dead skull in the sand and within a couple minutes it was 10 times bigger and 30 or so kids were helping him. it was great. the kids really got into it. in fact my sons second favorite band now is the dead. they couldnt overcome quiet riot for number 1 but we will work on that and the quarry is a life saver. they have showers but i found it was enough to just jump in and take a nice refreshing swim. they have a 30 foot cliff you can jump off of and a smaller 5 foot one that the kids enjoyed jumping off of. i highly recommend that you check this place out. if you like the crazy and fun vibe of roo this place is for you. it dosent have as much music or as big of acts but in my book its right up there with roo and i will be to gratefulfest every year. and im hitting summer hookah and gory at the quarry which is their halloween celebration. if it is possible for you to go be sure to do it. musically its not as big as other festies but as far as the vibe its the greatest place i have ever been. and i cant stress enough how great it is to have the option to go to bed at 8 am and sleep til 5 if you want. the kids eliminated that option for us. but some of my friends enjoyed it.

We are planning on the Labor day weekend. I can't wait to check this place out. I am glad to hear how kid friendly it is. We will be bringing our son, who I am sure will go nuts over the beach area. Thanks for the pics.
This sounds like something I used to go when my daughter was little in MD - Wilmers Park. It was very small, and it was music from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. It would happen about once a month during the summer. I first saw String Cheese Incident, moe, Leftover Salmon, Bela Fleck, Disco Biscuits, Umphries, and many many more great bands there. Great times!!
