I finally scored tickets to see the lips (NYC) and never seen them before. What should I expect from them as far the length of their set goes?
Just to give heads up to those of you in the NJ/NJ/Conn aera tickets for the two shows @ Hammerstein are still in presales until the 21st of this month and the password is "THEWAND" in caps. This looks like the last shows of the regular tour (except for the one off show for the Voodoo Fest)

So how was the show?
I'm planning on buying tickets for the show at the State Theater in Detroit with Sonic Youth. I wonder how their stage antics will translate over to a smaller stage?
Fecking amazing show. They played for an hour and a half. Which I'm guessing is pretty standard fare. They just get crazier and crazier. Wayne has sooooo many new toys since the last time I saw em. Confetti cannon, smoke bazooka, giant ballon blower-upper. They did Bohemian Rhapsody and ended with War Pigs. Really entertaining show. I'm gonna have to go see them again at the Allentown fair. Here's some pics.....

we are going to get our fill of the lips in the next couple months.
first at the kuyahoga festival next week, then lollapalooza 2 days later, then at hammerstein in nyc in september. love the lips and their show, but i'm seriously hoping for some variety in their setlist.
Your not gonna get any variety. They talk about that in detail all the time. Their act is planned and put together befoe each tour. It involves so many elements besides just them and their instruments that they have to stick to the plan.

i dunno...perusing their message board and looking at recent setlists, yes their shows contain the same basic elements, but they've been throwing in a couple different songs each show. that's all i'm asking for. i guess i should have been more specific. i was thinking of when they played 2 nights here in march and they played the exact same setlist both nights.
Yeah reading Danbird's description, I got the same show in Atlanta (including Bohemian Rhapsody and War Pigs). Expect pretty much the same show if you're seeing them multiple times on a tour... and hour and a half is about tops for them. At 'roo '03 they had to play 2 decent length encores to get themselves to 2 and a half hours - from what I hear that was pushing it for them.
