The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Who will headline the U.S. version of the Virgin Festival, presented by Virgin Mobile and set for Sept. 23 at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. As previously reported, the Virgin Fest will also visit Toronto on Sept. 9-10.
Also on the bill in Baltimore are the Killers, the Flaming Lips, the Raconteurs, Scissor Sisters, Gnarls Barkley, Keane, Thievery Corporation, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, New Pornographers, Wolfmother, Drive-By Truckers, Kasabian, Brazilian Girls, Tiesto, John Digweed, Carl Cox, 2Many DJs, RJD2 and James Holden.
The festival is produced by Seth Hurwitz, owner of the 9:30 Club in D.C. and president of I.M.P. "I did not want to book every band I could find and put up as many stages as I could and do a smaller version of Coachella or Austin City Limits or these other great festivals," Hurwitz tells Billboard.com. "My concept was to book the absolute best, most power-packed, quality-versus-quantity lineup I could. I wanted to make this the most prestigious festival to play on for bands."
Hurwitz anticipates the festival coming back every year and making money out of the gate. "I'm as big a capitalist as anyone in this business, but no one says you can't be a capitalist and a music lover at the same time," he says.
Tickets go on sale July 22. Capacity at the Pimlico infield will be 60,000, and general admission tickets are $97.50. A very limited number of VIP tickets will be available.
The Baltimore and Toronto events mark the first time the longstanding U.K. festival has left its shores. This year's edition will be held at Hylands Park in Chelmsford (Aug. 19) and Weston Park in Staffordshire (Aug. 20).
This is freakin perfect. I wanted to see Chili Peppers and Mars Volta but tickets for the Philly show are 70 BUCKS!!!! Feck that. Yeah I think I'll pay 30 bucks more and get to see The Who and all those other great bands. I was also gonna go catch the Raconteurs in Atlantic City, but if I can catch them there than screw it. I'll go to A.C. another time.
DAMN!! Baltimore isn't too far from here, I'm going to have to ask around and see if anyone else is up for going...the lineup is amazing!!
I've been searching online for more info and can't find any. The Billboard link is taking forever/not working. Has anyone found anything else on this yet?

Seeing RHCP and the Who on their seperate tours would cost $150 alone...its a really good deal, and the cheapest that any of us will probably ever see Towhshend/Daltrey.

Are The Who really getting that much now?!? ???
I remember buying "dual tickets" that cost me around $50 (or $60) maybe 7 or so years ago that allowed me to see the Black Crowes with Jimmy Page on one night and then The Who, a couple of nights later. I was in the pavillion for the Crowes and a decent lawn spot for The Who. Then I saw The Who again, a couple of years later, and know I didn't pay more than $40 or so.
I don't think I could justify paying more than that unless I know they were really pulling out a bunch of obscure stuff or something.
This fest though -- definitely looks to be worth it.
So who's going to this for sure? I'll be there, you better believe. We should plan a meet-up or something, for all those attending. The schedule's out as well......
Looks good except for the brutal mistake of putting the Chili Peppers and The Lips against each other. WTF were they thinking?
I'm not a huge The Who fan, and the parts I liked best are dead, but it strikes me as screwed up that they are playing before the Chili Peppers. They should blow the stage up or something when they are done.
So I guess no one besides Mr. Burgandy and myself are attending. Come on East Coast peeps, there's still tickets, and there's only a slight chance of showers. Fine don't go, see if I care.

great time had by all...
highlights for me:
Flaming Lips (obviously amazing, as usual) CYHSY- alec's voice was spotty, but he brought more energy than i have seen from him, very cool set Scissor Sisters- never saw them , never really heard much of them..but ...wow. i still am not sure what that was. great time though.
edit: yo danbird, did you end up going, sorry we didnt get to meet-up..but if you were there you saw how friggin crazy it was..i hope you had as good a time as i did.
Yeah I was there, it was pretty cool on the whole. The music was great all day, the setup of the fest was top notch, the food was too good.
Highlights for me were....
Wolfmother-Feckin rocked something serious. Gotta see them again.
The Raconteurs-Jack White doing Bang Bang(from Kill Bill). They were great.
The Who-Those guys can still rock the house, I think this was the biggest crowd of the day. That big screen in the back of the stage was amazing.
Chili Peppers-First time seeing them and I was blown away by Flea and Frusciante's jamming. Kedis's voice sucks live though.
The Killers suck, which just backs up what I've always thought. The friggin crowd surfing was out of control, especially for that show. I'm glad I never got real close at the main stage, cause I didn't have to deal with a different person coming over my head every 10 seconds.
It was a really long day, and getting out of there was a pain in the ass, but all in all it was a really fun time.....Here's some videos I found.....
