Thought some might have an interest in watching the live webcast of farm aid. It begins today, Saturday September 30th after 3;30 EST.
Performers include: Steel Pulse, Gov't Mule, Los Lonely Boys, Steve Earle, Alison Moorer, Jerry Lee Lewis, Shelby Lynne, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Performing later in the evening will be the founding fathers John Cougar Mellencamp, Dave Mathews(Band), Neil Young, and Willie Nelson.
From past experiences, I would expect some performers to mix it up and play with one another. Expect Willie to play with just about everyone.
Farm Aid is available to stream for free if you like. Or you can give them 10 bucks(or more) while supporting a good thing. I have taken the 10 dollar route in the past and was not disappointed at all with the product. I believe full sets are streamed as opposed to the BLUEROOM highlights format.

I just threw down a few bucks for two other good causes in the past 48 hours so I'm holding back. There's a creepy computer devil voice rolling around in the background right now and an awful lot of visual burps and pauses. For a free stream though, I can't complain! Steve Earle's take on "The Mountain" with Allison Moorer and Shelby Lynne was pretty great and Govt Mule rocked properly.
Yeah-I had some issues with the feed as well. Don't know if a better stream came with a donation or not. Here's why: I gave my tenspot much earlier in the day. Got my confirmation and favorited the link. Then, when 3:30 came, I went to link to it, and it was only a partial link with no live stream. After floundering for a moment or two, i went back and clicked on the free way in. So for all of the performances i asked myself the same question-would i have a better connection if i had linked throught the paid way ? ( I also wondered if it was my older processor, my connection, etc.) This was the first year that the stream was available free, so they were probably overwhelmed.
I, too, picked "The Mountain" as one of my highlights. Have seen Steve Earle plenty of times, but never heard it performed so prettily. And his wife Allison Moorer is a H-O-N-E-Y. Agreed that the Mule came to play. Loved that Neil ended with a bouncy rambunctious "Human Highway". Even thought Mellencamp rocked a very respectable set. Found a new respect for Dave Mathews- I'm beginning to understand his presentation-and find him pretty genuine. Willie played a typical set, including a couple of old boys who dedicated the song "Okie from Muskogee" to him. Oh, and Neil brought ol' Willie out for a fairly lackluster version of "Homegrown" which Neil said he would have written about Willie, had he known him when he wrote it.
All and all, a good way to spend a mellow saturday at home. Well worth my ten bucks. Great sound, though the mix was off at points, probably due to one soundman unfamiliar with all of the acts. Not near as "slick" as the Blueroom streams by any means. But , then again, Farmaid.org does not turn your personal information over to the government ! On the whole, not as politically charged as I expected. But alot of good information between acts on eating local and organic. Nice feeling of comraderie between all of the acts. A nice salute given by all involved to the family farmer. After all, "you can't eat money" as Neil said, and that's really what the factory farms are bent on producing. Or like Dave Mathews said repeatedly, " you gotta love a gooood tomato".
Also deserving of at least a mention was Steel Pulse. I thought they brought it righteously. Especially dug a song called "No Weapons of Mass Destruction".
Jerry Lee Lewis was O K, but if you listened hard enough, I think you could hear him constipatedly farting between songs.
Also, though the sets were uncut, they seemed waaay too short for the most part, especially Neil's-but that's largely my bias.
They had a nerdy kid doing filler in between sets-interviews and whatnot. Though much better than the incessant repetition of the same infomercials from years past, this kid was apparently in the hotseat. Although his discomfort led to a priceless Dave Mathews interview, where Dave ran the whole thing. It was some of the best comedy I've seen in a while !
Don't think that Farm Aid has been together enough to offer any downloads. Was hoping to get a steaming capture off etree or somewhere. Grabbed the Neil set from Dimeadozen.com. It's an audience recording that is somewhat unlistenable. Same taper did get Mellencamp and Jerry Lee Lewis. Different taper got the Dave set. Here's the setlest from that:
