I need to rethink VIP or even going at all this year.
My dog (my avatar) was just diagnosed with hip dysplasia. The best thing to do, eventually, will be a very expensive hip replacement surgery. It's the only way he'll really be able to live a normal life, pain free. I don't know if I can swing VIP tickets on top of the surgery. And whenever he has the surgery, we're looking at a really long recovery period. 2-4 months of only outside on a leash, no walks, staying calm, etc... can't be done if I go out of town. Sigh.
I'm thinking about selling handmade hemp collars and leashes to help pay for the surgery, but I don't know how much it would help.
So, unless the lineup is something that makes me want to die rather than not go. It will probably be no roo for me.
Hopefully things work out for the best with your furry little buddy and you're able to attend. Yet even if you can't, take solace in the fact they're buying up the farm and will be back next year...for certain!
If it makes you feel better I would sacrifice going to a festival so my pet could heal and live a normal life. I am a sucker for animals..especially doggies. Keep us posted on his situation and I wish him a full recovery
Thanks guys. I appreciate the support. We're trying him on glucosimine/chondrotin for a few months, but it's probably only going to help so much. In the meantime, I have to try to keep him from running and jumping- Not an easy feat with a 2 year old Australian Shepherd! So, no more dog park visits, no more fetching balls, no agility classes, no frisbee catching... It's really quite sad. What sort of life is it for a dog that can't play fetch? Walking is about the only way he gets to exercise. The good news is the surgery does a pretty good job and he will be able to do all those things again.
Sheesh, I've only had him for 3 months. I sure know how to pick 'em from the pound, eh?
I'll still be hanging around this board, at least until the line-up is announced. If the line-up is as amazing as I think it's going to be, I'll find a way to do both. Regular tickets and doing what I can to raise funds for my pooch. I did throw together a pretty nice hemp leash the other night and it didn't take very long. I tested it out today and it worked quite well. It might be something to raise some extra cash.
Sounds like not being able to do akk those activites is just as bad on you as well as him. Hope all goes well for him and you because I would hope most people would take care of their pet over other circumstances (even though it is roo). Good luck and hope you can do both!

That's what I love about roo folk :-) They see it my way. My dad wasn't happy that I'm planning on spending the money on it. He said, "Well. I guess you wouldn't even consider putting him to sleep" Ugh, no dad, I wouldn't. Grrrr.....
Perhaps I could volunteer at roo... it would be better than no roo at all.

I think volunteering at roo would be better than no roo at all and perhaps better than an average roo (right, like any roo is average). But i mean, think about it; it's like doing community service (thousands of awesome volunteers are essential for bonnaroo to run smoothly), saving money for your pooch, all the other pluses mentioned in the volunteering thread, plus i bet all the volunteers are hardcore bonnaroo fans and it would be an awesome opportunity to meet cool people at roo. get your friends to volunteer too!! Now that i've got this idea in my head, it just seems sweet. Sorry about your doggie and I hope he has a progressive recovery! You should make some other hemp things to sell too for those of us without pets who'd like to help, like necklaces or something. If you have that talent (which i clearly don't have)
I would have to convince my fiance to volunteer with me. He's not so hip on the idea right now. I think he'd feel like he was really missing out. But what I was reading on the other thread about staying with the Clean Vibes crew afterwards... that could totally be the way to go. You wouldn't miss out on anything during and you'd still get all the perks. I'll have to do some talking. But that means extra time off work and more money lost.
I'll step up production and see what else I can make. I do have a lot of beads hanging around. Thanks for the support you lovely inforoosters!
Jason, does your bulldog need it on both sides? From what I understand, most of the time, one good hip takes the pressure off the other one and it usually enough to still help them tremendously. And $5000 seems like a lot... are you on one of the coasts? Vet care is more expensive on the coasts, I know because techs make a lot more. They make jack in the midwest which is why I chose a different career. There's also a cheaper surgery they can do called an FHO. They remove the head of the femur so it no longer rubs on the hip. Muscle compensates for the bone no longer being attached. There's also a deinervation surgery my vet friend is researching for me where they cut the nerves that go to the joints so they don't feel the pain anymore.
Yea I have heard about the othert surgery. Yea my bulldog has 2 bum hips. But she is crazy and strangely enough while I have her xrays and one of her hips is just about dislocated she sitll runs and jumps and plays. It seems like certain activities set her off more than anything. And yes I am on the coast
Sorry to hear about your dog, I am a sucker for animals as well, I have had my share of them and have had to let older ones go, never easy. I hope that you can raise the funds for both or at least get your fiance to go with the idea, good luck either way.
