Anyone else into buying records? I am by no means an enthusiast, or someone who will sit and argue that vinyl sounds better..i just like to collect and with alot of bands selling vinyl now with coupons to download the album as well it doesnt seem that silly. I am so bad w/cds that i just scratch them up anyway. If i am going to collect something, i guess i'd rather have the record.
I like the sound of old vinyl better because of the pops and whatnot, but I won't argue it sounds better. I do collect though, have a good 1500 albums on vinyl. Some are 50 yrs old, some are brand new from last year. I also buy some cds, but at home I mainly listen to vinyl or shows I download

I only but cds if I can't find it on vinyl. The artwork is better, you get better liner-notes and more bonus tracks. Plus alot of bands release a good ammount of random stuff on LP only. They do not sound better than cds, that's definitely true, but they are more individually distinct. The periodic "pops" & "crackles" on my copy of a record are different than anyone else's...and I really dig that. It may sound stupid to people who don't buy vinyl, but it makes it a little more "personal" to me. Also, there is alot of crazy, obscure sh*t out-there that will never be released on cd due to lack of "mass appeal"...and that is often the stuff i'm looking for. Anyone who has ever happened across a mint copy of the "Popeye" (movie) or "Deep Throat" (w/ picture book)soundtrack will understand where i'm coming from.
Have Harp Can't Travel is an example of a vinyl I have which will never be on cd. Billy Barty is on the cover and he is trying to get on a bus while carrying a harp but the driver won't let him on. The music is just two women playing harps, but what a rare find. Probably worthless, but I love it. I mean, alot of my albums are worth a lot, but I still play them. I collect to have but also to enjoy.

I love cheap vinyl. I only get stuff from like fairs and fleemarkets and the like. I dont listen to them too often, but its cool having them, and iv made a few collages out of album art, which are pretty sweet.

vinyl is the perfect excuse for LP's and bonus stuff and whatnot. some bands put good effort into vinyl artwork and extra dingalings that come with it.
