Omar had stated a few months back that their current release (Amputechture) was not a full blown new album by the band. Frankly most of the material even reached back as far as their ATDI days. The reasoning behind it was to get it off the table and start fresh. Good idea. But now comes the beautiful part about this band. In a music industry filled with Chinese Democracy's, and Trent Reznor's TMV continues to be a frighteningly persistent band when it comes to album releases and touring. Very few band can say they'd even consider a schedule like TMV has. They had no intentions of releasing shelved tunes and calling it a days work for a few years. They planned on recording a follow-up immediately. And here it is, straight from the horses mouth. Well, not the horse. The brother of the horse. A quote from Marcel Rodriguez (Omars brother). While getting lunch a fan (Credit to the Comatorium) noticed Marcel and proceeded to ask him how the band was coming along with the new record. Marcel replied. "You'd be surprised. Thats pretty much done. We are here rehearsing."
Now I'm praying to every god in the history of man for them to be playing at Bonnaroo this year. Could there really be a new album out by the end of Summer? Could there be Prigden and brand new TMV tunes at Bonnaroo?!?!?!
Should be interesting to hear the next TMV album. Theyve been steadily releasing albums for the past 3 years, but most of that stuff has been written for a long time. After Amp Im not sure how much old material they have if any. I love this band because they keep me f*cking interested. Is that hard for some artists to understand. Dont become a musician to sit on your ass, its your profession, create.

Not only is that great news but, i'd say that it does increase the possibilty of rooturn to Manchester this year. The only thing that would make me happier would be a Talking Heads reunion...and that's saying ALOT! In an interview a couple of years ago, Cedric said that he thought that there was a salsa band struggling to break out-of Omar...So i'm really interested to hear what he's come-up with. I can't wait to here the new stuff...preferably fom the front row of Which Stage in June! For anyone not familiar TMV's incredible live show...Wether they play Bonnaroo or not, if they're anywhere near your town when they finally get their tour up-and-running, you really should check them out. You will not be disappointed!

Now I got something that makes this better than great news. Anyone reading this should keep in mind that these are just rumors, but despite that TMV is very open with their fans and most news that circulates through fans usually holds true.
Rumor is that they're shooting for an April release. a 7 month gap between releases? These guys are unreal.
This is great news for the most part. I only have one bad feeling up to this point. After listening through Amputechture a few times and realizing I didnt love it like other TMV records I had one thought. It was that this band better take some good, sweet time to record another album and make it up to par again.
I also really hope that whatever they recorded drum wise they gave Pridgen enough time to work with. Anyone who listens to this band needs to realize that Omar structures every last piece of music, records, mixes and masters (With someone else). In a nutshell, he structures roughly 70% of the drums and the rest is the actual drummers touch. Pridgen is barnone the most talented drummer they've ever had and I hope he gets to shine on the new disc. I always love Jon on drums, but I also always said they needed to hook up with a thoroughly trained Jazz drummer.

Omar is definitely in complete control of what we ultimately hear. I've learned to trust his musical judgement, so I can't wait for the next record! If it's true that the majority of "Amputechture" is made-up of older ideas/songs, then i'm not really worried about what's next. While "Amp" may not have been quite as groundbeaking as their previous releases, It was still better than anything most other bands have been putting-out. Like I said, I've got no reason not to trust what Omar's doing/thinking/up to, so i'm looking forward to the next chapter like a kid waiting for Christmas!
