Cool! I am behind on my reading and have only read the first four of the series (and may need to read them again to refresh myself). I didn't know there was a comic book being released. thanks for the info; I will certainly look into that.

I've been waiting for this for so long, I almost fogot about it. I loved the books so much that i'm considering starting the mammoth story all-over again. Now that the comic's actually being released, i'll probably hold-off on that and focus on the new series. Does anyone know how many volumes are planned? Just curious.

Is this out already?
I didn't even know it was in the works! I've read the book series all the way through twice. I love that shit. Wizards and Glass was probably my favorite, but I started with that one so that might be the reason.

I don't understand how you could start mid-way through and still appreciate the story as a whole. That seems like it would ruin the whole thing to me. IMHO

I picked up the 4th one in an airport just after it was released on paperback. I had read a few King books as a kid, but didn't know anything about the Dark Tower series. After I read this one I bought the first 3 and re-read them all, then waited for the rest of the series.
Obviously there were some things that I couldn't piece together, but Wizards and Glass was such a good stand alone story anyway that it worked for me.
I started with The Drawing of the Three and it has always been my favorite (I immediately started over with Part One, which I still think is one of the weakest). I've actually recommended to people that they should skip to the second book if they don't find the first engaging. I still think its the best stand-alone book of the series.
Can't wait to check out the comic. This and the new Buffy comic coming out will mean I will once again start frequenting the comic book store.
The best Dark Tower rumor I heard (this was a long time ago and probably isn't true anymore if it ever was) was that they were talking to the Samurai Jack/Clone Wars animators about an animated HBO version. That may sound cheesy if you aren't familiar with their work, but I think it would be perfect (better than a live action attempt).

I saw on CNN today, that Stephen King and J.J. Abrams (LOST, ALIAS) have officially announced plans for a "Dark Tower" movie, due to be released in 2009! This could be amazing....or it could suck legendarily bad. I'm torn but, excited.

seriously?! a movie, this could be the most amazing thing ever, but when things like salems lot and insomnia come in to play i dont see how a movie could do roland and his ka-tet justice. the comic is sick! Jae Lee's art fits the story perfectly, this is a definite pick up for any comicbook/ dark tower fans

thankie sai
They made Insomnia into a movie? I didn't know that - I loved that one. I have intentionally not watched the movie version of The Stand b/c I don't see any way possible that it could be any good compared to the book. that and it has that annoying '80s actress Molly Ringwald.

The "Insomnia" that starred Pacino and Williams is not based on King's novel. They are nothing alike at all. It would be almost impossible to accurately recreate certain important aspects of that book on film.I loved King's story but, the movie sucked. (at least, in comparison)
I've read DT series a few times and it grows on you. I've never been able to get through the 1st book (The Gunslinger) but the others are great. I read each book as it came out so it was a 17 year process (longer than most marriages) I like everything King wrote (though most of his movies are not so great.)

I was hoping this would be animated. I heard a rumor awhile back that the guy who does Samuri Jack and those Clone Wars cartoons might do a Gunslinger series.
I picked up the first graphic novel last week. It's pretty much straight out of the book, but it's good to see an artists's rendering of the world of the Dark Tower.

So this is just a comic version of the series, right? Will i be ok picking up the comic without reading any of the series?
i guess will have to wait and see on that, but I find comics a tough read if I don't have a lot of background on the subject. I feel lost right from the start. Read the gunslinger it's a short piece of work only 300 pages in paperback. Although I have only read the first two of the series(working on wastelands right now) I find I like the gunslinger the least so far......great series I am hooked
Yes. Reading it doesn't depend on any prior knowledge of the books. It helps, but it's still good stuff. In the books, you get a story of Roland, the Gunslinger in his present and also flashbacks to his childhood. The graphic novels focus only on his childhood.

Wow, after only one comic, i'm addicted. After i finished that i went out and grabbed the second issue and the first two books, im psyched! I've always like Stephen King's books, especially the Bachman ones, dont know how this slipped past me.
you won't be disappointed ziggy, if you get a chance you should really try to pick up hearts in Atlantis , insomnia, and, salems lot, this site has a road map for the series.

Ah...you're addicted. Welcome to the Dark Tower side.
I started my way to the tower a few months ago. Reading only when extremely inspired. I'm already a huge fan of ka and the DT series. I'm nearly finished with The Wastelands, and my Wizards and Glass should be arriving any day now!
