I really hate the city I live in..its not very diverse at all..very uptight and just a shitty place..I have been wanting to move south for some time..maybe Athens Ga..I have been thinking more about TN..it has my favorite festival every year..as well as alot of VW related events that I also attend every year..my question is do any of you live anywhere in that area? I can live out in the sticks..a small town..or big city..speak up and let me know what you think of the place you live around there. Thanks
I live in Nashville. It's been rough for me, but I also really like a lot about it. It's far more progressive than people would think, but you will always have your zealots...
There's a great music scene here, obviously, and it goes far beyond country. Probably the only place I've ever lived where there are fifty different venues every night that offer some type of live music.
Friendly people, good weather, good hang-out spots.

I live in Nashville also - I am originally from the UK, moved to Florida, then Maryland and N. Virginia. And then I found Nashville and I haven't looked back. I love it here.
We have 4 seasons (although the summer can be a little hot at times), the cost of living is cheap, and the people are great (well the majority of them). The music scene here is much more diverse than you would ever expect - it is not all Country. My fiance moved here from NJ and he loves it also.
i've lived in athens ga, and it is a happenin town but it's GA man, if you wanna move to the sticks my vote is the northwest or somewhere other than the south.
Nashville and Chattanooga are both nice towns. Same with Atlanta, probably the only place I'd consider moving to in the south. Can't recommend anything this far west, though.

I just moved to Chicago from Columbia, SC. I would recommend staying as far north as you can tolerate in terms of climate. South Carolina is a beautiful place, but the entire Southeast is so nauseatingly Republican/Religious/Conservative that I couldn't take it anymore. I only visited Atlanta a couple of times for concerts, baseball games, etc. but I thought ATL was a terrible city. If you politically lean to the left whatsoever, I'd stick around TN or the Northeast, or head west - anywhere west. well, except TX.

not to take away from the thread, but ive heard from a lot of people about the music scene in nashville. my band is thinking about moving in a year or two, try and get a little more out there, and we were thinking about moving to eugene oregon, but when i heard about nashville i thought about moving there instead.
if those of you from nashville could do me a favor and give my a band a quick listen, let me know if you think we could fit in down that way. www.myspace.com/shybonesband

U live In Lex?!?!?! Thats where I was born and raised bro!!! My house was on Bob-o-link drive..... I know thats oddly specific but it's a small world. I moved around a bit from TX(sux), North Carolina(awesome),to the TN. Murfreesboro is a pretty quickly developing place, and some of that is good and some of that is bad. Way too many 'traffic stop cops', the town pretty much makes it's money off of small petty crimes(possesion), but other than that and the retarded masses of retard moterists it's okay, we got a smorgisboard of resturants and thats about it. I'd say Nash. is a pretty interesting place to live. great places & venues for live music, and the cops worry about important matters.

No offense, buddy, but are you smoking rock? Atlanta (well, inside the loop Atlanta) is the most liberal place south of the Mason Dixon line. Their congresswomen was a borderline socialist until she screwed up and messed with a police officer when her ego got too big. ATL has one of the highest concentrations of homosexuals in the country, per capita it may even be higher than SF. No wonder you saw the bad side of it if you were there for baseball games...

Thanks guys for the imput.. I know every place/city has it's problems but I really am tired of the cold weather..thugs..rednecks... and simple minded people here in the Bluegrass...I have always heard good things about Nashville...

I'm a Murfreesboro person as well, born and raised, and I have always loved the vicinity to Nashville. Downtown Nashville is on an upswing as far as a younger demographic and the city is definitely growing. I love skyscrapers, and there seems to be a steady offering of developments lately adding to the skyline, with more on the way.
The music scene is great. If you like country, it's pretty much a mecca. If you like indie rock, or really any rock, there are plenty of great shows and venues. I love it. We've got the NFL and one of the best hockey teams in the NHL. Plus the vicinity of Nashville to Atlanta is a perk too. For the shows that skip Nashville, it's a quick three hour drive to the big city (Roger Waters in May anyone?). I like Atlanta, but the sprawl would keep me away as far as living.
Athens, GA however, I wouldn't mind living there. Going to see My Morning Jacket there in a few weeks. As far as college towns go, I guess it's one of the best. At any rate, I say move anywhere in the south. The majority may be conservative, but generally speaking everyone's polite, and always welcoming. The pace seems to be at bit slower compared to the northern cities too. Lousiville, KY...another great city. I guess I'm just a bit biased towards the south. Hehe.
