Anyone else watching the Oscars tonight? I'll be going back and forth between it and some Fox cartoon action. I really hope that Little Miss Sunshine wins best picture. I think the chances are good. I'd love to see Scorsese win best Director finally, as well.
Alan Arkin for best supporting actor. HOLY SH!T!!! They're actually giving Oscars to people that deserve it. Who woulda thought. I really thought they were gonna give it to Eddie Murphy as a sympathy vote.
i was hoping for wahlberg too, but oh well, hopefully scorcese will get best director, the departed was awesome. the sound effects choir was pretty nifty...

I think if you take into account overall career, Arkin deserved it. Plus, Wahlberg wasn't really acting as much as delivering the great dialogue written for him. Leo and Jack were the best things about that movie acting wise, imo.
So far, pretty respectable ceremony. The dancers are kind of lame, but then what else is new?
Jack Black and Will Farrel's little diddy was really funny. When the hell are they gonna do a movie together? It's destiny, and they shouldn't deny us destiny.

I just hope f'n Peter O'toole wins... such an amazing actor. If you haven't seen his nominated performance in "The Ruling Class" where he plays the 13th Earl of Gurny, a schizo who is given reign after his father dies at a failed attempt of auto-erotic asphixiation. He believes he is Jesus Christ and then Jack The Ripper. AMAZING and hilarious film, strange one.

yeah... what was that her first movie?!?! That's pathetic to know that an American Idol reject can win an award that fu cking Cate Blanchett is up for... are they trying to say that she's on her level? Wow, worst part of the show so far, which isn't bad.
oh and I just got reminded: where were the nominations for "Science of Sleep"? I woulda atleast said nods in best actor, art direction, and original screenplay. Great movie.

Celine Dion just killed the highlight of the night for me. Ennio Morricone is the only composer who I will see a movie for. The man's work is amazing and damn near perfect.

How exactly does Pans Labrynth, which was nominated for like 50 billion other awards (and won many of them), lose to a movie that was only nominated for best foreign film...... The logic on that just doesnt make sense to me.
total disapointment with jennifer hudson as best supporting actress.....
You knew it was gonna happen though. I mean she was up against a child and the female cast of Babel. Which is a good movie, but how are you gonna choose between 3 of em. Hudson's story is like a movie. So maybe they'll make her story into an Oscar winning film with a wonderful performance by some other American Idol loser, who will win the Oscar, in a once-in-lifetime story, that will be narrated by.....You guessed it.....Al Gore

The Lives of Others pretty much swept the European version of the oscars. Also, I believe a film has to be released within a calendar year to be eligible for other awards. The Lives of Others was released stateside in 2007, thus, it was not eligble for technical and acting awards as Pan's Labyrinth was. However, it's gotten universally positive reviews and probably plays to better to an older audience than Pan's Labyrinth.

Yeah, the problem I had with Dreamgirls was they did a really, really bad job of representing Motown. I mean, how can you be a movie about a particular genre of music known for producing really great singles and not have any songs that are single worthy. Pathetic.
