I have not seen the movie, but i think Whitaker deserved it. He seems like someone whos just dedicated to his trade, and its nice to see someone overwhelmed when they win. And Martin Scorsese deserves about 5 of these by now.

WOW has anyone seen that movie?? he beat out O'toole??????
I "have" it but I haven't watched it yet. I guess I need to do that soon.
Did anyone see Half Nelson? Ryan Gosling was really good in it. He definitely deserved the nomination. I wish that movie would win something. All the music on it was done by Broken Social Scene.
You had to know The Departed was gonna win best picture, with Jack presenting. Good stuff. Little Miss Sunshine woulda been nice but, what R U gonna do?
I'm pleased with the overall outcome.
EDIT: I just wish Borat woulda won best original screenplay. WOWOWEEWOW ;D

"The first movie he has ever done with a plot" really worked out for him i guess. I love to see Scorsese win, and i think the movie deserved it. Good to see some good remakes, hopefully they can do the same for Oldboy. Actually, i just hope they can that if they havnt already.
Can't argue with The Departed winning (although haven't seen Letters from Iwo Jima). LMS, The Queen & Babel were all good, but not quite as well written and executed as The Departed. Wish Children of Men would've gotten more love. Oh well.

I'm glad Scorcese got best director and The Departed got best picture. This has to be one of the first times I felt like people who won actually really deserved it.
But Leonardo should have been nominated for the Departed, not the blood diamond.
and I also loved marky mark in the Departed. It was a breakout kind of role for him, IMO.
I was suprised Pan's Labyrinth didn't get best Foreign Language film. That kinda bummed me out. I guess I gotta see what won instead.

Yeah, Children of Men was one of my favorite movies I've seen in a long time. The soundtrack was great too; Radiohead, King Crimson, Bark Psychosis. Haven't seen the Forest Whitacker movie or The Queen.

It took me a long time to be able to admit it but Whalberg is a really good actor. He was great in I (heart) Huckabees and Boogie Nights but I didn't think that he was all that great in The Departed. Hard-ass, gung-ho cops have been done to death...and he didn't take the character anywhere new, IMHO.
i'm actually happy with the results of the oscars this year. the departed is definitely one of my top favorite movies...it's a really good movie and i'm glad to see it win.

If you like Mark Wahlberg and action movies, see The Big Hit. I love that movie. Its mostly just a mindless action/comedy movie, whiles its not oscar material or anything, its extremly entertaining.

Not usually too big on the action movies, myself. If you want to see a great, textbook example of quality acting...check-out the scene in Boogie Nights when they go to Alfred Molina's house to rob him. At one point, as Dirk starts to realize exactly what is about happen, the camera zooms in on Mark Whalberg's face. He never says a word, and barely moves his eyes but, he shows the full spectrum of human emotion....in about a 30-45 second span! It is truly amazing! That scene is what convinced me of how good of an actor he actually was. I still, sometimes, watch the movie just for that scene.
