*honorable mention*
the goo goo dolls- Dizzy up the Girl i know its just a pop album but it really got me into music in general. i really like all of the songs on here, they're catchy and the production is very good
15. sigur ros- takk it taught me what music was capable of. its so beautiful and awe inspiring. this is imo the msot beautiful peice of msuic ever recorded
14. bright eyes- i'm wide awake its morning and i fell in love with this cd. there is not a single song i skip, his voice ranges from quietly emotional to harshly honest, and the melodies are simply and catchy; but msot fo all i liek the lyrics. very profound for someone so young
13. radiohead- hail to the theif this is hands down my favorite radiohead album. to me it sounds like they're palyign the way they did during kid a but are writting songs instead of an album. don't get me wrong i love kad a. btu this is just my personal favorite
12. the beatles- magical mystery tour in my opinion this has the most itneresting flow and soem fo the best songs they ever wrote. and i can't listen to it without thinking of my dad and how much i love him, which is an added bonus
11. ryan adams- gold ryan adams came along at a point in my life when i was mired in the musical mundane. i listened to crap and stained. i heard when the stars go blue on the radio and thought to myself that it was one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard, so i picked up this cd and was blown away and it totally changed my view on music and what i listened to. i guess you could say ryan adams salted the road for me.
10. carole king- tapestry absolutly incredible. i listened to it on vinyl when i was a kid and got the cd when i got older. james taylor plays on most of theese now classic songs. brilliant work really. also would be a great add for roo
9. the mars volta- deloused in the cormotorium amazing, simple amazing. so much ebergy, crazy atonnal guitar work. blows me away with each listen
8. jimi hendrix- are you experienced? the greatest guitar palyer to ever step foot on the earth. i would've had axis bold as love on here instead but The Wind Cries Marry is my favorite hendrix song. probobly one of my top three favorite songs ever
7. M Ward- the tranfiguration of vincent unquestionably beautiful, sorrowful, awe inspiring, and original. he is one of my favorite artists still recording today. his lyrics rival those of bright eyes, his melodies those of elliot smith, and his sincerity that of springsteen. his best work
6. ani difranco- knuckle down most liekly the msot anticipated album of my life so far. when it came out i was already really into ani difranco. this si by far her msot personal, beautiful, cathartic realese and i appreciate that she's willing to share what she does with her fans. soem of my favorite songs are on this album. after giving it much thoguht i liek this one more than not a pretty girl
5. my morning jacket- at dawn what can i say i LOVE reverb. haha. this is my favorite my mronign ajcket album. the songs range form powerful to sorrowful to fun. seeing them live is such an experience. amazing
4. bob dylan- blood on the tracks my favorite dylan cd. he influenced me tremendously. dylan and damien rice are the resons i took up guitar in the first place, and their both the reason i took up and still prefer the acoustic. the songs are timeless with mysterious lyrics, and beatuful melodies
3. damien rice- 0 incredible. haunting. timeless. beautiful. memorable. angry. ecstatic. in my opinion perfect. listen and see
2. nirvana- in utero the nrivana cd thast influenced me most. i think this is the angriest, most cathrtic cd ever to be realesed. cobain's voice is full of self loathing, and just all around sadness. some very memorable moments. i'm very sad this was their lasts tudio release
1. bruce springsteen- born to run my favorite cd ever. its about getting out of a small town no matter what, the true power of love, the sadness of failure. i listen to this cd almost every day of my life, its my bible
Honorable mentions: 'The Letting Go'- Bonnie 'Prince' Billy 'Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes'- TV on the Radio
15. 'Whatever and Ever Amen'- Ben Folds Five Ben Folds made cussing to wussy jazz piano rock okay for overly sensitive junior high kids with a definite sense of irony to admit they grew up on Harry Chapin and Billy Joel.
14. 'Another Green World'- Brian Eno In high school, a record store clerk told me this album was better than lithium. He was right.
13. 'The Stranger'- Billy Joel Everyone deserves an unpretentiously cheesy soft fm album on their list. I grew up on this album and pretty much know the lyrics and music backwards and forwards.
12. 'Kid A'- Radiohead Not my favorite Radiohead album but definitely one that had the most impact. It started all the debates as to their relevance, their originality and turned me onto so much more jazz and electronica music I would've never known about otherwise
11. 'Berlin'- Lou Reed My favorite ACTUAL concept album. I was bummed I didn't get to see Lou and Antony perform it together last year.
10. 'Stankonia'- Outkast My gateway into hip/hop.
9. 'Pink Moon'- Nick Drake I was depressed a lot in high school. This was my favorite album.
8. 'Wild is the Wind'- Nina Simone The range and power of this album are hard to match.
7. 'Live at Sin-e'- Jeff Buckley I was on the fence about Buckley until I heard this album. Best live album I've ever come across
6. 'Pet Sounds'- The Beach Boys If I had only one album to give a high school kid as a piece of advise, it'd be this one. So beautiful and full of hope.
5. 'Talking Book'- Stevie Wonder I went through a big Stevie Wonder phase with this album being the first and best. Now I tend to prefer his earlier stuff.
4. 'Abbey Road'- The Beatles Need I say anything?
3. 'Franks Wild Years'- Tom Waits I hate birthdays. One birthday my parents took me out to a nice steakhouse against my will. I was mopey. My dad gave me this cd. It changed the way I saw music.
2. 'A Love Supreme'- John Coltrane I used to have major issue with my central nervous system. It doesn't react well to stress and when nuts hits the fan, my stomach literally ties itself into knots causing what I can only describe as cramps from hell. This is the only music that has a proven record of soothing my nerves and reducing the stress.
1. 'Graceland'- Paul Simon
The lyrics, the music, the context of growing up traveling with my family through the south and midwest on vacations and listening to this album. It means more to me than any other collection of music out there.

Wow Great Topic, But I hate having to leave albums out...
1.Led Zeppelin - Zeppelin I (changed the way I looked at music for the rest of my life, Key track:Babe I'm Gonna Leave You)
2.The Doors - The Doors (Lyrical balladry alone on this album makes it one of the greats, The Doors at their rawest and most composed, Key Track:The End)
3.Cream - Disraeli Gears (The first time I heard this album it absolutely blew my mind. Eric Clapton on guitar, jack Bruce on Bass and one of the the most underrated drummers, Ginger Baker. Key Track:Tale Of Brave Ulysses)
4.Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive... (During the summer especially this is heard in my car at high volume at least thrice a week. Great album that defined my high school years. Key Track:Lounge)
5.Pink Floyd - Meddle (Just a great album to pop on anytime I need to mellow out and recharge the batteries. has one of the greatest opening tracks in rock & roll, but Key Track:Echoes)
6.The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (My dad used to play this album all the tiem when I was a kid and it has stuck with me for generations. The wizardry of Hendrix on this album is amazing. Key Track:Voodoo Chile <-15 minutes of joy)
7.Radiohead - Kid A (A concept album that really took hold of me when i first heard it, I loved OK Computer, The Bends, and Pablo Honey and this album solidified my love for Radiohead, showing that they can go in a different direction and still nail it. Key Track:Idioteque <-especially live)
8.Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde (I love someone who can confound me and impress me with his lyrics in one album and that is one of the main reasons I love this album and it fits together so well. key Track:Just Like A Woman)
9.My Morning Jacket - At Dawn (Favorite MMJ album, and really runs the full gamet of musical expression, you never know what youre gonna get next. First album I heard by them and I loved it as soon as I heard it. Key Track:Phone Went West)
10.MC5 - Kick Out The Jams (DETROIT ROCK CITY. This band has basically made me who I am today. Kick Out The Jams is a war cry for those who need to break out and listen to great music. Plus with the backing of John Sinclair and the White Panther Party the exemplified an era that will never be forgotten. Key Track:Starship <-Sun Ra cover that will blow your mind)
11.The Allman Brothers Band - Eat A Peach (Really showed what a band could do when they didnt constrain themselves with catchy, SHORT, songs and instead just go out there and JAM. Key Track:Mountain Jam <-and never a dry minute in the 34 it takes up)
12.Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Burn To Shine (Great album by one of the greatest performers and guitarists of our time. This album was the first I heard of Ben Harper from my older cousin and I never turned back. Key Track:Please Bleed)

14.Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine (One of the first albums I ever owned, which I bought off my sister for a buck. Greatest investment ever. Zack's voice and his expression in his signing is amazing and matched by very few people except a band who they covered known as the "MC5"[look above]. Key Track:Freedom)
15.Jeff Buckley - Grace (An absolutely amazing album that was unmatched in talented virtuosity of song since Van Morrison's Astral Weeks album. A man who died before his time and gave us some great music. Put it on whenever you feel bad and rejuvination is coming your way. Key Track:Mojo Pin)
Honorable Mentions: The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat, The Beatles - Abbey Road WHEW...

1. Neil Young - On The Beach
I turn to Neil more than I do any other artist, and On The Beach is the first album I go for. To me it is simply the perfect album.
2. Radiohead - OK Computer
This album has stood the test of time for me, Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and now the workforce, I always find something fresh that i love about it.

An album that will be remembered as the best of my generation in 20 years. Too bad they don't get the recognition they deserve.
5. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea
If you can listen to Oh Comely without sobbing, please check your pulse.
6. Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings
This man changed my life. This is real music. I've never doubted anything that he said. This man lived through his music. Putting on a pair of headphones and listening, i feel like i am right there with him at the Crossroads.
7. The Beatles - Revolver
Not suprising, but way deserving.
8. Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
This album takes me back to a time and place. No one does it like Malkmus.

One of the first albums that got me seriously interested in music other than classic rock.

6. Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings
This man changed my life. This is real music. I've never doubted anything that he said. This man lived through his music. Putting on a pair of headphones and listening, i feel like i am right there with him at the Crossroads.
That man changed my life as well, I would have put that on there but I dont have an actual album by him, just a plethora of recordings I got from my Dad..."The Devil" never played so good
Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream Bjork- Debut A Perfect Circle- 13th Step Dave Matthews Band- Under the Table and Dreaming Muse- Absolution The Police- Every Breath you Take (the Singles) U2- Achtung Baby Portishead- Portishead Imogen Heap- Speak for Yourself Michael Jackson- Thriller Nine Inch Nails- Pretty Hate Machine Pink Floyd- The Wall Radiohead- OK Computer Sarah McLachlan- Mirrorball Sigur Ros- Agaetis Byrjun
I base a lot of this on albums that have stood the test of time for me, or they hold some special meaning in that they got me through difficult times in my life, or reflect a shift in my love for music. Longevity is probably the most important thing to me in a favorite album, so most of these are ones I find myself turning to even today. I found it really hard to put them in 1-15 kind of order, but here goes.
1. Ani DiFranco - Little Plastic Castle An introduction to a completely different genre for me. Lyrically smart and strong.
2. Coldplay - Rush of Blood to the Head After a particularly dry period of bad music (some would say this is bad, but I don't care), this album got me interested again. It's the honesty in the lyrics, I always find something new and dynamic, and my favorite songs happen to be the last 3 or for songs on the disk. "He said oh Im gonna buy a gun and start a war, If you can tell me something worth fighting for" from Rush of Blood to the Head. Probably my favorite part of the CD.
3. Sublime - Sublime Possibly one of my favorites for road trips, mainly because I know all the lyrics and can play a mean air-drum. I drove from OH to CO when I was 17, and I have a tattoo similar to the black and white flowers on my ankle to remember that. Some artists really do leave too soon.
4. Tool - Aenima A big music shaper, while I was shaping up to be an artist.
5. Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Bind I enjoy the last 3-4 tracks on this album. Forget the rest, that's where the meat is. Like most of my favorites, it's all in the lyrics, and these meant something to me.
6. The Cranberries - No Need to Argue Her haunting voice left an impression on me, and I found solace in a lot of it as my family was going through divorce and I retreated to my room to read or write in journals.
7. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live at Luther College This was the first Dave Matthews album I bought. I am still amazed to hear the guitar work and can't figure out how it's done.
8. Alanis Morrisette - Jagged Little Pill One of the first albums I ever bought on CD. Great on "angry-girl" days.
9. Live - Throwing Copper Lightning Crashes. Beautiful.
10. Better than Ezra - Deluxe I love the variety of this album, playful and thoughtful.
11. Blink 182 - Dude Ranch I dedicate this one to high school. This was before they went all mainstream and stuff, but it was the album that in my opinion became their big "break".
12. Toad the Wet Sprocket - Coil Lyrical Poetry IMO. I love Glen's voice and I always felt like the album produced a lot of mental imagery for me.
13. Damien Rice - O Haunting and Emotional. Raw but beautiful. At last, someone new and willing to put it all out there. I saw his emotional performance of Blower's Daughter on Jay Leno and bought the album the next day. I'm still not done with it.
14. Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth For some reason I relate to this one, I was never really *that* in to NIN in the 90's, I think it was a little before my time, a little darker than I was willing to venture. I love the melding of techno influences in to this CD, it stands out from the rest of the radio.
15. Akira Soundtrack This extremely interesting and flexible collection of songs I like not just for how they are used in the movie. It's this soundtrack that began to spur my interest in other soundtracks as well as other Asian artists and my collection has grown in both categories.
Honorable mentions include two mix tapes that dad played in the garage when I was a kid. One was a mix of Steely Dan (ricky don't lose that number!) and a tape of Arrested Development (Tennessee). There were so many of these albums that shaped my music taste over the years, with a sprinkling of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Doors. So my honorable mentions are all those tapes
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this

Pretty good lists so far peeps!

Here goes nothing:
1) The Beatles - "Abbey Road" 2) Radiohead - "Amnesiac" 3) The Rolling Stones - "Exile on Main Street" 4) The Band - "Songs from the Big Pink" 5) Joni Mitchell - "Blue" 6) Bob Dylan - "Blonde on Blonde" 7) Outkast - "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" 8) Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" 9) Led Zeppelin - "Led Zeppelin II" 10) The Flaming Lips - "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" 11) The Grateful Dead - "American Beauty" 12) The Beach Boys - "Pet Sounds" 13) Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" 14) George Harrison - "All things must Pass" 15) My Morning Jacket - "Z"
Honorable Mention:
Wilco - "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" The Clash - "London Calling"
I've come to hate developing 'all-time favorite album' lists, but I always end up posting one anyway. I realize it's cliche to add a disclaimer, but let it be known that this truly does change day to day and the actual placement is often arbitrary.
Anyway, as of 02/27/2007, it's looking like this...
1. "OK Computer" - Radiohead
2. "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" - Wilco
3. "Blood on the Tracks" - Bob Dylan
4. "Pet Sounds" - The Beach Boys

6. "Heartbreaker" - Ryan Adams
7. "Take Back the Universe and Give Me Yesterday" - Creeper Lagoon
8. "Europe '72" - The Grateful Dead

12. "Exile on Main Street" - The Rolling Stones
13. "Rain Dogs" - Tom Waits
14. "At Dawn" - My Morning Jacket
15. "London Calling" - The Clash
The one album per artist restriction is good, but it leaves me reeling on a couple of these folks. Dylan, the Dead, the Stones, and Radiohead may have received double nods.
1. Ben Harper - Live From Mars 2. Dave Matthews Band - Before These Crowded Streets 3. Damien Rice - O 4. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon 5. Bob Marley - Legend 6. Phish - Billy Breathes 7. O.A.R. - Anytime Now 8. Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales 9. Rusted Root - Welcome to My Party 10. Robert Randolph - wetlands 11. The Grateful Dead - American Beauty 12. Nirvana - Nevermind 13. Bob Dylan - Greatest Hits 14. Sublime - Sublime 15. Bob Schneider - I'm Good Now

I could spend more time thinking about this then doing my taxes... What's more important, a current fave or an old war horse? Already starting to second guess myself, here's my list in no order.
moe. - "Tin Cans and Car Tires" Bob Marley & the Wailers" - "Live!" Morphine - "Cure For Pain" Drive-By Truckers - "The Dirty South" Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" David Bromberg - "Wanted Dead or Alive" Grateful Dead - "Europe 72" The Beatles - "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" REM - "Document" Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" Rusted Root - "When I Woke" Stir Fried - "Electrafried" Lucinda Williams - "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" Phish - "Hoist" Neil Young - "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere"
The top 3 never change, but anything after that is day-to-day
1. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass 2. Radiohead - The Bends 3. The Beatles - Revolver
4. Gomez - Bring It On 5. My Morning Jacket - At Dawn 6. Jeff Buckley - Grace 7. Elliott Smith - From a Basement On the Hill 8. Ben Harper & IC - Live From Mars 9. Black Crowes - Amorica 10. Pink Floyd - Meddle 11. Drive-By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera 12. Led Zeppelin - Houses Of the Holy 13. Black Keys - Rubber Factory 14. Gov't Mule - Dose 15. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Thats great that you have Houses of the Holy on your list, because that is my favorite Zeppelin album and I feel it is way underrated. Anyways, here goes:
Radiohead - Kid A (I used to think the bends was their best album, but once I experienced this with a good set of headphones the race was over) Beta Band - Hot Shots Part II (obviously highly recommended for any Radiohead fan - they opened for Radiohead and I think it was Thom that said during the Kid A/Amnesiac sessions they were going through a "Beta Band" phase) Nirvana - Nevermind (I like the second half of this album better than the first half - songs like Drain you and Lounge Act are timeless to me) Pixies - Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim (when I had this they were part of the same cd, so hopefully that is not cheating) Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (exemplary album, b-boy bouillabasse - the best in men's clothing) Jane's Addiction - Nothings Shocking (lots of anthems that rang true for me in high school) Boards of Canada - Music has a right to Children (I am going to stop making comments on these albums for the sake of comments and return to our regularly scheduled program) Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Fugazi - Repeater + Plus three songs Ministry - A Mind is a Terrible thing to Taste Primus - Frizzle Fry OutKast - Aquemini Notorius B.I.G. - Ready to Die Out Hud - Street Dad Ted Leo - The Tyranny of Distance
I like the idea of honorable mentions for mixes so- DJ Coldcut - JDJ (sorry I took your mix Oatmeal, what can I say you have great taste in music, like the rest of you) DJ Dan - Take a Fix to Funk
