Didn't really think about this until I saw a news feature on it this morning, but the energy bill that Congress passed in 2005 is taking effect this year, moving the start of Daylight Savings Time up to the second Sunday of March (the 11th) and going through the second Sunday of November (also the 11th). Your computers will not automatically adjust to the new change...both Microsoft and Apple have patches you can download to adapt to the change, or you can obviously go in and un-check the DST auto-update manually. Either way, don't forget to make the change!

Now, clearly this change really only applies to [most of] North America, with the exception of Hawaii, Arizona (except the Navajo Nation), and also Guam, the VI, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico, which do not observe DST anyway.
This is interesting because a lot of computer networks/servers and hospitals that rely on machines that use timestamps to monitor and document its patients can run into some issues if they don't address these changes. This is NOT another Y2K...these concerns are actually pretty valid and will screw some people up if not tended to. So don't forget boys and girls - DST is earlier this year!! Adapt accordingly!!
Not just your computer but any and all electronic devices that keep the date and time will be screwed. That is until the companies all get it sorted out. I am worried about my Tivo.
I called Cingular and they made it sound like the phones should switch automatically, as always, but I have my doubts. For the less tech savvy folks like myself, is there a direct link for the Microsoft patch?
