The most a doctor will do for a broken toe is to tape it to another toe so it doesn't move around, so unless you have good health insurance, i just saved you a couple of hundred bucks.

If it were broken itd definatly swell a lot, but broken bones dont always bruise, thats a pulled or torn muscle. If its stubbed itd be a good idea to pull it out, but id give it another day to see what happens, if you arent a high caliber athlete i wouldnt really worry about it.
I broke my big toe and it looked normal. It was a little swollen, but no discoloration. I took me awhile to heal too. But the others are right, just keep it immobile as much as possible and take some Aleve. Sorry 'bout your luck.

Um...ok...teehee...... ::trying really hard to understand Joe Cocker connection::
Sorry bout your toe, Dani
I'm not sure if it affects women very much, but my Dad, my little bro, and my best guy friend have all woken up feeling like their foot/feet were broken and it turns out they had gout! I don't know all that much about it except that it tends to act up when they drink a lot of beer and eat a lot of certain meats or fish. Hope whatever affliction you got is feeling better by now.

One of my staff members broke his toe last week, and wasnt able to work on it for a couple days. He seemed to be in quite a bit of pain, but no bruise at all. So no matter if its a break or if ya stubbed it real good, I wish you a speedy recovery!

Gout is no fun, it is caused by the crystalization of uric acid in your joints caused by dehydration (alcohol, digestion of proteins) Just hydrate, if it has gotten to ban you will need medication to clean it out, I have it in my ankles and knees, had a friend who had it in his big toe and middle toe, completely aweful. Hope you get better.
