Okay. I lived in Knoxville for 30 years but, never spent any time in hotels (especially since I lived 5 minutes from downtown). The closest hotel, that I can think of, near the Tennessee Theater (one of the best places to see a concert that you can imagine!) is the Holiday Inn. It's only a few blocks away and, as far as Holiday Inns go, is pretty nice. It will also place you directly between the UT campus and the Old-City...both great places to drink, hang-out and/or listen to local music. Check-out Blue Cat's and Barley's(both in Old-City), if your not familiar. I'm sure that someone else can be a much better help in this matter but, since no one had responded yet, I thought that I would pass-on what little I know. Hope it helps.

I agree with oatmeal the holiday inn is your best bet. Also, you won't have to worry about getting mugged in knoxville, but beware of eyes in the sky and the lights in the rear. Also check out The World Grotto, it is in Market square(downtown) and has a real low-key atmosphere with cool art if your not into the full fledge bar scene. Some good bands play on occaision so check out the site. www.worldgrotto.com/
