wow. seems like a waste. of money and natural beauty. its sad we destroy so much beauty in the name of "preserving" and enjoying it. im sure it has a nice view though. it just opened today. although i cant find a real pic for somereason.
that looks insane. and dude, theres plenty other canyon out there to be used. i dont think we should worry as much about "defacing" a canyon as we should about defacing say, forests and whatnot. anyways it looks as natural as you could make and it looks liek a kickass view. i used to not want to go to the grand canyon, but now i do.
No way in hell will I be walking out on that. I don't care how thick the glass is. I'm scared of heights but will climb up the outside of our 4 teir racks no problem. Just the thought of that kills me.
You sure it opened today? Because I saw it on the news and it was still under construction.
i caught it breifly on cnn. i thought they said it opened. but i could be mistaken. i was working as i watched it. that might explain why real pics werent available.
im of the mind that natural beauty should be enjoyed in a natural way. i want to see the grand canyon. in fact i want to back pack for weeks in the area. but if you only have enough motivation to drive to a parking lot and pay 10 bucks to stand on some thing that has defaced and destroyed part of that canyon then you dont deserve to see it. if it was for some type of scientific research to help preserve the area id still not like it but id understand it. but to do it just so they can make money off of lazy tourists is worthless in my opinion. and the grand canyon is a very limited area and is something that is available in only 1small spoot on earth. forests are abundant and are all over the world.. im against deforestation too. but to say there is plenty of canyon and then go to talk about forests seems a little odd to me. we need to quit putting roads, parking lots, and attractions like this at all of natural wonders it ruins them. if you arent willing to put some effort into seeing them then watch it on tv. thats my opinion of it anyhow.

haha I think your clinging to the side of the canyon right now with that argument haha. A little visitor center on the top of a canyon that is miles upon miles long is the very very very least of our worries environmentally.
^ dont hate. my opinion is what i stated before, no need for you to explain why you think my opinion is wrong. this is all im gonan say to avoid leading this thread down the tubes such have others been done.
I wasn't being sarcastic or anything. Just laughing at your reasons for not liking the skywalk or whatever. If that's not your opinion sorry. I wasn't at all trying to start anything or hate. Just thought it was funny. Thanks for the find really though...never heard about this.
Wait a second.....I was agreeing that it's not that bad. Hope you were talking about the dude above me then....now I'm confused.
Kind of tacky, but no worries, that thing will be gone long before the canyon is, it will probably confuse the hell out of some archaeologists. Also, I read about this a year or 2 ago when it was being built, and it is a Native American tribe that own the land, and the sky thing, so at least they will be able to make the money off of it, they deserve a break that most other people don't.
Ive seen the canyon and there is plenty of it. This thing looks awesome and it might save a few idiots lives that stand out on a ledge and get blown off. There have been bridges crossing the canyon in the past so what the difference?
it looks cool. that being said, it should be used for the handicapped, small kids, and the elderly. people who wound not normally get the chance to go for a hike to get such a view. if you got workable fu<king legs then fu<kin use them!! wait a minute! if your too lazy to do some hiking, do us a favor; stay home, get fatter and have a fu<king heart attack! leave the trails to us!
sorry to get so mad. i just hate to see our national parks support the fattening of this country. if it really does give Native Americans money, then bring on the fattys! i'll buy the prok rindes!
I think it is just another way to appreciate the magnitude of the canyon. Apart from base jumping off the edge, how else is a person going to get that kind of perspective (70 feet out looking strait down).
i said it was cool! my point is that things like this deter people from REALLY "getting" the parks. "hey kids! lets go on the sky walk thingy, take a picture and go back to the hotel and you can play your Xbox!!" "thanks dad! that sure beats exercising and learning!!"

somebody stated above how the skywalk defaces the canyon but would love to go backpacking. Well in order for u to go backpacking u need to have roads leading in to get u from place to place. Plus all the trails made by backpakers that were not natural "defaces" the canyon. So unless u hike it in from the interstate backpackers are part of the problem. The litter from thousands of people each year backpacking defaces the canyons way more then a skywalk located in a singular location.
You also must realize millions of visitors can't backback and travel through the canyons due to health and age. That's not being lazy just confined. All people should be able to view the beauty of the canyons. If u really think about it(i know it can be tough but try) the skywalk will get more visitors to the park and when they see the amazing canyons they will be more likely to want to protect these treasures. NOT DEFACE THEM. This experience hopefully will carry over to their everyday lives. Plus this gives the rangers the chance to teach people about conservation and teach ways to protect these natural treasures.
