Well this is news to me. After seeing 300 and looking up the director and his credits, I find out that Zack Snyder is going to direct the film version of the greatest comic book ever, The Watchmen!! It seems that there are a few comic fans here, so what're your thoughts? Will it fly or will it flop? Judging by 300's great results, I expect The Watchmen to be even better, with a better story and a more cinimatic quality to the comic. Feed back is a must!
Being the comic lover I am I feel that the big screen cant due justice with this book the way they have with 300 or Sin city for that matter. The Watchmen has to many characters that need to be developed in order to get the full effects of that in reading the comic they would have to make 3+ hours. I read V for Vendeta before it hit theaters I felt some better parts were missing that would have made the film better in many ways.
^ I see what you're saying, and while I'd be more satisfied with a 10-12 episode mature-rated mini series for like HBO or something, I'm still glad that it's going to get represented. I've also come to expect to see major elements from comics to be left out of their movies, and I think that that's ok, since the art of Comic and Film are two totally different things, you must present the content in a different manner. But c'mon now, how can you not give it a chance when it comes out? It's not like a (potentially) shitty movie can tarnish the book's reputation as classic literature of the 20th century.
I'll believe it when I see it. I love the book but it's been "in the making" for years now. I don't know how many time directors have been attached only to be killed by the studio.
