most people who listen to good music have done at least some Beatles listening, so i decided to ask for a favorite album, song on that album and perhaps even a reason why.
Favorite album: Abbey Road Reason: It's how I want to remember them. Favorite song on Abbey Road: "Something" Reason: The sound of George Harrison surpassing McCarthy as a songwriter.

Favorite Album: Abbey Road as well Reason: Just the fluidity of the album and the songs the way they are put together. Favorite Song: I Want You (She's So Heavy) Reason: I can put that song on at anytime in my life and rock out however I want to...just puts me in the mood for great things

This is so easy.
White Album (my favorite album of all time) It was the pinnacle of their creativity: catchy tunes, experimentalism, playful goofing and jamming all go hand in hand. It touches on nearly everything imaginable and still coalesces into a single, powerful unity.
Because the album is more than the sum of its parts, it's difficult to pick the best song. If forced, I'd probably pick I Will. It's just about the most perfect love song ever written.
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band-Its incredible how ahead of its time this album is, as melikecheese stated, its timeless. My favorite song off of the album is Fixing a Hole
the white album is my favorite beatles album, not to mention one of my top 3 favorite albums ever. some of the stuff on it is absolutely mind blowing. i can't even pick a favorite song. abbey road is a close second because of that run of songs (sun king--the end).
Hard to choose but Id have to go with abbey road is there best album, but I think the best Beatles song is "Day in the Life" from Sgt. Peppers, mainly because its the ultimate Paul/John collaboration since the literally took two separate songs and combined them into one.

favorite album: Magical Mystery Tour reason: kinda a concept album. hah. i listen to it all the time, and always all the way through. also it reminds me of my dad Favorite song on Album (not my favorite beatles song): All you need is love reason: should be the theme to all mankind

I saw The Wood Brothers open for MMW a few weeks ago - they did an awesome cover of Fixing a Hole (one of the highlights of the entire night for me).
The Beatles had so many great albums, but if pressed for a favorite I'd also say Sgt Peppers. 'A Day in the Life' is an epic composition, and as Potato said, a true collaboration between Lennon and McCartney.
Sometimes I think I'm the only person in the world that doesn't care for the Sgt. Pepper album. Some great tracks on it, no doubt, but I like the White Album infintely better. Followed by Abbey Road, then Magical Mystery.
Fav: White Album Why?: I feel it's the most abstract and experimental Beatles album. Song?: I really feel you can't seperate the tracks, but if you're going to twist my nipple until I pick one I'd say Yer Blues.

Abbey Road is my favorite, but Sgt. Peppers is a close second. The thing I like about abbey road, is that you get to hear George Harrison at his best. The long ass medley (song 9- The End) at the end of this album is my favorite ANYTHING by the Beatles. I think its the best 16 minutes of rock/pop music ever recorded by any artist. But if I had to chose just 1 song off of the album, it might be 'She Came In through The Bathroom Window". It seems like the 'energy peak' of the whole album to me.

Good choice! I like how you said it reminds you of your dad. This album reminds me of my mom because it was one of the 2 LP's that was left after my dad sold my moms record collection without her approval. Those 2 were then quickly donated to me from the moms. It's always great when music can connect you to people. ;D
Also - I never liked Abbey Road and quickly shelved the LP but after reading this I must be wrong. Its time to pull that back out and check out this medley you all speak of.
Tough to choose between all those mentioned so far...so I won't! I pick Let It Be because of its rawness and its ability to make the fab four seem playful with eachother even though they were anything but at the time...and because it was one of about a dozen 8-tracks (yeah 8-tracks) I had that were the start of my love of all things musical. Tune - I Dig a Pony
song: I dig a Pony - If I ever make a movie about my life the closing credits would have me driving, alone in the car, singing this song as it plays in the CD player. I don't know why, it just feels right.

I agree with everything in this post. "A Day in the Life" is my favorite song of all time. Don't know why, it just seems like the perfect mixture of the mundane and the otherworldly. It transcends humanity.
Also side 2 of Abbey Road changed music and is the single greatest side of any record ever made.

Just listened to Revolution 9. Everytime I listen to that song I dont know if I should be struck with melodic genius or pure psycho babble. I love the song for its originality and unique idea, but its just so abstract (almost to abstract)...either way, the song will leave you wondering what is going on in life...I do know that much.

^^^ If you dig Revolution 9, I'd reccomend you check out some other artists that work in tape music and music concrete, many of whom were a direct influence on Lennon and Rev. 9. In particular is John Cage, whose Williams Mix and other sonic experiments with magnetic tape were a huge influence on Lennon in the late 60s. Also edgard Varese (who was Frank Zappa's main compositional influence) and Steve Reich have some very compelling tape compositions, as does Zappa Himself (Lumpy Gravy is an absolute masterpiece).
But back to the origional point of this thread: Fav album: White Album Reason: It is literally all over the map, not as cohesive as other releases but infinatly compelling Fav. Song: Revolution: 9 Reason: it introduced pop music fans to music concrete, and 35 years later they still don't know what to make of it.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

^honestly the beatles are the greatest band ever. when i list my favorite bands to people i don't even have to say the beatles cuz i figure its just assumed. they are without a doubt the msot popular band of all time. i think they were even added to the dictionary, which makes them the onyl rock band in the dictionary
