I keep hearing rumours that Clear Channel now produces Bonnaroo. I don't think that they are true and I suspect that the rumours started when a stage announcer made a joke last year that "Clear Channel just bought Bonnaroo". I don't consider Clear Channel to be quite as evil as many other people seem to, but I am curious if this rumour is true. I know of one band for certain who has been asked to play, but are refusing because they are under the impression that the rumours are true. Anyone "in the know" have any input?
Anyways, There was an april fools jome about them buying Relix and Superfly, but no fret, Bonnaroo is still untainted by the grasp of Clear Channel. Besides, I am not sure if the south is their territory. I know the rule the northeast and west, but I am sure if they had the chance they might go for Superfly.
I heard that same rumor a while back as well. I hope and pray every night that it never does come true.
But my lady has been to both Bonnaroo's and said that last years was much more "corporate" than the first? Anyone else think so? Last year was my first year, but as much as I don't like it, I guess with all that they had and all that they could have had it was an acceptable representation of the darker-side of our world.
It could have been worse is all I'm really saying. Thoughts of a re-enactment of Woodstock '99 still scare me to this day.
I've been to both Bonnaroo's and the only differences I saw last year were improvements from lessons learned the previous year and stricter enforcement of what you can and cannot bring into the venues ie water, munchies, etc., because the first year was so hot, they pretty much allowed us to bring anything in to keep us cool.
correct me if im wrong, but the first year you didnt have to go through the fence to get to the tents or centeroo did you? i thought the only place they checked our bags was going into the 2 stage areas??? last year you had to go throught the check to get into any of that. that was really the only change i saw. i dont think it made it more corporate though. i wouldnt worry too mych about it.
"Work like you don't need the <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=money&v=55">money</a>...<a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=Love&v=55">Love</a> like you've never been hurt...and DANCE like no one is watching." ~unknown
The first year they said in advance that they would be checking, but then with the unexpected heat wave, they were more concerned with heat exhaustion. They relaxed alot of rules and procedures in the interest of keeping everyone moving and spread out. Last year, the entrance nearest us(back side of Centeroo, past Cinema Tent) was closed sometimes, open sometimes with bag checks, and open sometimes without checks. Never could figure out the pattern, but it might of had something to do with the crowds at the other gates. ???
