I'm starting to choose a university to attend. I find out if I got admitted to UGA this Friday. I think I have a good chance, but since the date is really close I'm starting to get nervous. I got in to six other schools (Only Charleston rejected me. What bastards...), but UGA is the one I'm really going for. I have visualized me attending there a lot, and I feel pretty confident about it. Any other Inforooers at a similar stage in their life? Advice?
Don't waste your time spending your four years and thousands upon thousands of dollars studying something that you will never find a job for.
If you can keep working even if it is just an internship....many employers feel just as strongly about some solid work experience as a bachelors degree.

I'm not at the same stage exactly. I just recently decided that I will be staying at the University of Minnesota for grad school though, so sorta the same. Choose somewhere you will be comfortable, you don't want to regret being somewhere.
As the booyakasha stated, internships and things like that are great. My job is the main reason I got into all the grad schools that I wanted to (except my 2 backups-- that I didn't even want to go to--who put me on a waitlist...ironic). So just work hard and have fun!
Good luck with your decision and best of luck on getting into UGA it's a great feeling when you get admitted to where you wanna go.

It sucks for me. The two schools I like best are the hardest to get into. I really like history, so obviously that's going to be my major; also, I'm doing a business minor. The two schools out of the eight total I applied to with the best history programs were College of Charleston and UGA. CofC is a liberal arts school, and that major is one of their top programs; however, they rejected me, so that's out of the question. I didn't think much of UGA until I went and visited the campus. Their professors are very experienced and very diverse. Of course this sparked my interest in the school. It's tough to get into UGA, so I changed my application to Freshman Summer, which, from what I've heard, is much less difficult to enter. The only thing bad about the program is it starts and ends in July, I then have a week off, and then jump into fall semester, August 14th. I'm just really tense about it all.
I've just recently started looking into grad schools. Man, this stuff is expensive. At least for any school outside of West Virginia, which is kind of the route I want to go. Hopefully I can get into a decent, inexpensive Geography program outside of this state.
...that doesnt really help you at all, just thinking out loud on a similar subject lol Good luck with UGA.
I was in your spot a few years ago. I decided to go to Belmont Univ. in Nashville to study music business. I got there, and the climate at the school was very repressive, and I didn't think it was where I wanted to be. It was a smaller, expensive liberal arts school....blah blah blah...
I did that for a while, then decided to transfer to the U of Cincinnati. Took classes for a bit, took some time off, and now I'm back to doing school full time with a degree in Journalism and Sociology with a minor in English Lit.
The only advice I can give you is to go somewhere you're comfortable with. That's what really matters. Be open to trying new things and meeting new people. it's cheesy, but college and the attached social life is really what you make it to be.

I'm going out on my own next year but i'm actually gonna work for atleast a year and establish residency somewhere to save some cash. A lot of my friends who attend liberal arts school kinda regret it after, just something to think about. Good luck with UGA, it sounds like the right choice, and if you dont like it you can always transfer.

They didnt like having to take all the general required courses, so if your looking to focus solely on your majors you may want to avoid liberal arts schools. As i said in the secrets thread i want to be a police officer, so either after a year of working i go to school, or i have a good job and just work until im 21.
Don't rule out a year or two of junior college to get gen-ed requirements out of the way. It saves money, and if your primary attraction to college is academic, it might save the frustration of the inevitable disappointment that lower level courses often bring to those who already know what major they want. You have to find good community colleges though because they are definitely not created equal.

True. I forgot to mention that there is a school called Gainesville State College that is right below Athens. I actually got nominated for a scholarship there. You think I should just do that? It'd be a lot easier. The only thing is a lot of kids go there just to get into UGA, so they're a bit strict about taking kids from GSC. Then again maybe I could just transfer to CofC, where I originally & still wouldn't mind attending. FUCK I DON"T KNOW!!!!!
