Prayer... salat... meditation... prārthanā... positive thinking. It goes by many names, but it is older than language itself. Some use it to petition deities, while others see it as a tool for inner peace. Despite the technical differences, practitioners all share a common goal: the restoration of harmony (in some scale) to the world.
As a boy, I loved watching the votive displays in church. Each candle was its own separate plea, alone and flickering in a dark vestibule. But together... as a community of flames... they were truly beautiful. It spoke the same message to each petitioner: you are not alone.... There was strength in numbers. Each would take a measure of comfort home with them that day, and, for a short time at least, there was the hope that harmony would be restored.
If you've got a votive you'd like to share with the community, maybe to lift a little of your burden, or just to keep the positive energy flowin', feel free to post it here. I'll start:
One of our own (nshvllbound) is having a little bout with pneumonia down in Texas. She's doing fine and should be cool for 'Roo, but a little good will headin' her way wouldn't hurt any .

beautiful post, karma
I offer a votive for all of those wrongfully accused and imprisoned throughout the world and for anyone living through a difficult period in their life, that they may find peace in their soul and joy in their lives.
