I figured the bonnaroo community would appreciate this little piece of propaganda as it was originally reproduced as a folded leaflet in support of DUBPLATE dance party, San Francisco 2002
Enjoy and spread that disco kung-foo
Disco Kung Foo
Wherever people are looking out for one another, thinking of others and feeling the vibes of life, there are no cliques, hierarchies, or status quo. reach out, think of others, find your people, WHEREVER they are and keep pressing on. we've been lied to, trashed, betrayed, hated, rejected, dumped, heartbroken, let down, snubbed, fired, disappointed, hurt, shat on, spat on, ripped off, blamed for everything that's wrong with the "scene" and left out.
We have also been hugged, loved, worshiped, respected, well paid, openly donated, praised for everything that's good about the scene, and held in high regard.
neither extreme is the truth.
Seek balance, spread love. you are the sum total of your actions and nothing more. So clear the crap off your side of the street so you can sleep well at night, and then rise!
Come together with people who are truly your friends and family. go to any length to be of assistance and praise all that you hold dear often. If anyone EVER calls you a hippie, or puts you down for feeling this way...
Smile! Always smile!
Leave the drugs in their place. if you can't forget them entirely. i have never been so high as i have been when i am sober. and more than anything else, beyond all the self improvement and ways of seeing, past all the social nonsense and WAY past all our collective ideals:
Dance.
Dance and dance and dance and dance and dance and then dance some more. go out to a party, any party...
Dance.
Even if you don't like the music right away, even if you feel uncomfortable at first, and especially if no one else is dancing yet...
Just dance. Close your eyes and dance. keep dancing...
Feel the waves of resistance leave you. feel the wealth of emotion and hope rise within you. let go of all impulses to stop. don't go to the bathroom, don't look at who might be looking at you or who might not be looking at you...
Keep your eyes closed.
Dance....
Radiate.
Do some disco kung foo and spread your love and light around the room.... do it until you have no more to give (when the music stops) people will talk about this party for months and never understand your willingness to give yourself completely to the vibe, to the essence of the gathering.
The magic disco kung foo (taught to me by my estranged and difficult brother cosmic jason) affects us all. everywhere, all the time. find your dance floor and boogie!
After you've done this a few times and are feeling up to it. rent the Last Days Of Disco (an indie film by whit stillman) intelligent, fun and interesting. the diatribe at the end of the disco era on the sidewalk in front of the NYC Unemployment office... an ideal for living!
We are all getting older, growing up and moving into new worlds. bring the love and the light that you feel into your new dimensions with you. you are beautiful, you are perfect just the way you are!
i love you enough, do you?
i hear you and i know without question that you are of my tribe, my brother. do you? growing up sucks, it's hard. but it's beautiful!
Peace my friend, hope this has guided you to a new pair of glasses.
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
