I just looked at my pack and saw 1 remaining smoke.. and got the sudden feeling that now is my time to quit smoking.. Instead of pickin up a pack on the way home I'm gonna either get some patches or some gum...
well, I didn't sleep last night(Redoing 2 Citrix application servers and their secure gateway server) so I'll be crashing out rather early.. not smoking at home tonight won't be a problem.
For me I'm waiting until after Bonnaroo. I am weak-willed and have very little self discipline so I know I'd just start again there. But I know I need to quit. I cough too much and I'm starting to see the effects in my skin and they've gotten so damned expensive. It's sad really. I wish I'd never started in the first place
Depends - do you smoke because it is a habit or because it is an addiction. I smoke out of habit - I go all day at work with no cig but the minute I get behind the wheel - I gotta have one - that is really the only time I smoke - on the way to and the way home from work.
Anyway - if it is an addiction - get some patches or nicorette gum - it it is a habit - you need to give your hand something else to do - I kept straws in my car that I cut to be the same length as cigs - gave me soemthing to do with my hands.
BOOOOOO! Evil Citrix! (Sorry, had to throw that in there) ;D
oh yes, I know.. These servers are my arch enemy, I really despise them but every time I convince the CFO to drop citrix they take him out to lunch or something

Its both The good news is, the bars in my county are all non-smoking, so that'll be less of a problem, and my office just started a policy that you have to smoke at a certain entrance.. which happens to be on the FAAAR side of the building from my desk, so I'm less likely to see other smokers headed out
Anybody ever use Chantix? I went to the Dr. last week to ask for Zyban, and my doctor suggested trying Chantix. It's apparantly a new drug that targets the nicotine receptors in your brain, tricking you into thinking you just had a cigarette. Anyways, i have a prescription for both (Zyban and Chantix), so once my insurance approval comes thru, i plan on quitting. i've tried quitting cold turkey before, and i just wasn't able to do it.
^^^ good question because I really want Boz to quit smoking - have heard good things about Chantix - Zyban is the same things as Welbutrin - just marketed under a different name. If you wanna quit and in surance will not cover Zyban - get your doc to write a prescription for Welbutrin (at least this is what my doctor told me)

Break all your fingers so you won't be able to hold a cigarette to your mouth or even light one. But seriously, i quit after roo last year. I just decided i did not want to smoke cigs anymore and did it cold turkey no problem. I would say the first 2-3 weeks will be the worst. Once I got through that they weren't even appealing anymore. I did smoke a lot more uuuhhh other stuff while quitting though.
well, it didnt work. After only 3 hours of much needed sleep last night I got a call and had to do a bunch of stressful backup-restores... but I only had 2 cigs during that time! Perhaps I can just use the time up until roo to break my worst habits..
No smoking while waiting for the bus(this will be rough)
TRYING not to smoke when something blows up at work
There about 5 people in my office that are using Chantix, they say it is great stuff. I have had Welbutrin, I think it was great, I just didn't take it long enough. I will try it again.

For me, it's the habit that I can't break. I did quit for 3 months over a year ago and what I did in place of smoking in the car was to light little short sticks of incense to keep my hands busy. I can break the physical addiction no problem, but I can't break the habit. I always fail when I get upset about something... first thing I want is a cigarette.

I used to smoke, I don't anymore (Ok, well...when I drink, I tend to get antsy and bum from people)....however, I just know that I'm going to be smoking like an overcooked chimmy chonga come Bonnaroo. That's my time to unleash, I don't feel bad about it there, but any other time...I do.

I was thinking about those but.. don't they interfere with another type of smoking?
I'm taking Wellbutrin now and it doesn't interfear with ANY kind of smoking. I'm still a chimney on both counts.
Got a script for Chantix from my Dr, but am too afraid to fill it just now. I'm still reading up on the side effects; it a new druq so there's not a lot of info on the long term.
Couple of ppl I work with swear Chantix is a miracle. But as a professional procrastinator, I'll prolly wait until after roo.
yep I'm a smoker when I drink, when I was going out 6 nights a week it didn't really make too much of a difference but now that I've weened back to one or two nights a week it does, but when I smoke on those nights it with a vengeance

My parents just started taking this drug called Chantix to quit smoking. They have only been on it for a week, but I'll be glad to see my parents without a cigarette in their hand.
Allen Carr wrote a book "the EZ way to quit smoking". Thats what I used to quit. And its not a motivation book to make you stop but more of a you'll feel so stupid about smoking after you read it that you wont pick up another cigarette again. It even encourages you to continue to smoke while reading the book until chapter 30 which the the "Last Cigarette". Thats actually what I thought this thread was about
