I get into "music moods" for example, right now all I want to hear is led zeppelin and weirdly, Underworld - they don't really go together but they both pump me up and I'm trying to unpack my new place ;D
I tend to listen to music based on what I'm reading at the time. A few good examples I've found of "soundtracks" to books are Radiohead's Kid A and Insomniac while reading the Lord of the Rings and Depeche Mode's Violator while reading The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

In a weird mood, been listening to a lot of Les Claypool (especially 'Of Whales and Woe') and Mothers of Invention...in a bit of a freak out phase right now...
Last week was Devendra Banhart (as you can tell in my lastfm avatar) because I had Finals, and I study to that music a lot...very chill and cools my mind.
i listen to moe.'s new york city every morning and at least once a day at work, it always makes me feel good....and i like it when i'm running because the chorus speeds up and it makes me run faster....
"White collar conservative flashin down the street, pointing that plastic finger at me, they all assume my kind will drop and die, but I'm gonna wave my freak flag high." Jimi Hendrix

At night i always listen to lady music because im tired. This past week or two has been Fiona Apple, kick ass newest album. On the way to work i always listen to umphrey's.
I definitely get on these things, just random tears of only one band or type of music. I'm desperately searching for some jungle rainstorms to download right now. For some reason I've been really, really wanting to just sit and zone out with it on for hours on end. Not sure what kind of mood that qualifies as.

I've really been digging The Breeders and Franz Ferdinand lately. I've been breaking it up with some mellow electronic grooves from artists like K&D, Kosma, Hacienda and 9 Lazy 9.

oh man... recently all i've been listening to is late 19th-early 20th century italian opera. check it out: cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/ it's a library of 7000 free downloadable mp3 files of wax cylinder recordings ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph_cylinder ) if you dont know what wax cylinders are.
so so so amazing. just yesterday i was lazing on a blanket in the grass, on a beautifully sunny day, underneath a tree's flowering canopy, and i was listening to these old italian opera files while white flower petals were falling down around me. it was the most picturesque moment i think i've ever experienced.
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.
black keys for about a week now. i didn't have any of their cd's so i went out and bought 3. great, great, stuff. yea, i still buy cd's. someday i'll join you youngin's and get an ipod! the black keys are now a top 5 to see at roo. gotta support those ohio boys!

I'm always fascinated by people who listen to music based on their mood, because I can't do that at all. With a couple exceptions, I listen to whatever, whenever. In fact I'm about to take a nap while listening to John Zorn's "Duras:Duchamp". I've also been known to listen to opera while performing manual labor type work, and metal while driving to church.

This sounds very familiar... I'll go on kicks where I download lots and lots of one genre and listen to it religiously for about a month and then switch gears.
Right now I'm on a Led Zeppelin kick big time... along with Ween, Sasha and Digweed, and Paul Van Dyk. I'm up to almost 40 gigs of music - and I am extremely anal about my music collection... must be all full albums, all dated/genre/artist/album in iTunes, and all with album art for the benefit of my iPod.

I've been in a very very good mood lately!
School is finally out for the whole summer and I got all A's and B's.
My tuition reimbursement that I get from my job comes in about 3 days and that'll be an extra $1200 in my pocket.
I just moved into a brand new place that's 100 times better than my old house and I only have one roommate as opposed to 3, so it makes the living situation a lot cleaner and more pleasant overall.
Me and my newly acquired girlfriend are doing great and I only see the relationship getting stronger as time goes on.
Oh...and Bonnaroo is only 33 friggin days away!!
So needless to say....I'm in a very good mood! Lots of Nickel Creek, lots of it. That stuff puts a smile on my face.

What's your name on Soulseek? You sound like the kind of fellow I should be associating with. I'm at 55 gigs and am nearly as anal, but I wasn't always so I still have some incomplete albums floating around...
