Hmm.. so as the sys admin/helpdesk guy.. I get termination reports as soon as HR finds out. Usually its either right after someone resigns or when HR knows they are about to be fired.
Usually, I get 2-3 names a week that I've never even heard of, simply disable the domain account or mark it to be disabled on a certain day, and go about my business..
Would you say it isnt a good sign that I just got 26 layoff notices spread over about 5 minutes? and the last one says "More to come"
I am under obligation not to inform people that I know they'll be let go, but.. several of these folks are good friends.. perhaps a job search is in order..
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
I have employees that are also now friends of mine, and I think that I would let them know if they were gonna lose their jobs (I have a couple times before)....but I was good friends with them and knew that they wouldn't say anything that would lead back to me...So if you know that they wouldn't say anything that would jeopardize your job, I'd tell them...If you think it will come back to bite you in the ass, I'd reluctantly not say anything to them, friends or not. Either way, I'd hate to be in that situation
decide who you can trust, and tell them. let's face it: if they're going to be fired anyway, they're not going to be able to do anything to change that so as long as they're not coming back with an AK-47 to shoot the place up, they'll be able to get a head start on what they need to do for themselves.
i'd certainly make sure i mentioned, while letting those i thought i could trust know what was going down, that 'hey i could get in a lot of trouble for telling you this, so please be extremely cautious' blah-blah type of thing. if they respect you as friends should, they will not do anything to cause word to get back to you.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I am in a position where I know things like this before they happen and am known for keeping my mouth shut. But if it was one of my close friends - not just acquaintances, I would probably tell them. Like someone said before, if you are good enough friends that you know without a doubt you can trust them.
