So...I'm cooking a meal for my girlfriend tonight because I'm too broke to take her out and I want to try and impress her with my cooking skills (or lack thereof)...
..That's where you handy inforooers come in. I was curious if any of you guys have any tasty, gourmet, mouth-watering recipes that you know of or have made or tried that you could suggest to me? I'm talking anything, as long as it's tasty and will look good on a plate. (I'm trying to impress)
I'm searching the web while at work here for something good, but I'm not finding anything worth going to the store and buying all the supplies for.
So, if you guys happen to know of anything, it'd be greatly appreciated. Karma to any who help! (slow process, but it will happen, promise!)
Cornish Game Hen (or if you're REALLY strapped for money, do chicken breasts, it'll taste JUST as good and cook in 30 minutes if you use the boneless breasts - 40 if you use bone in) A La Champagne Orange Sauce
Chicken Breasts or Game Hens - 2 1 Bottle Champagne or Asti Spumanti (can be CHEAP stuff - I prefer Asti for this) 1/2 stick butter or margarine 1 jar Orange Marmalade (any brand)
Pour the marmalade, 1 cup of the Asti or champagne and the butter in a sauce pan and cook over LOW heat till the butter and marm melt - schmear the birds with the sauce and cook the birds at 350 for CHICK - 30-40 minutes basting with sauce every 10 minutes HENS - according to dirs on package - usually 1.5 hours at 325 or 350 basting every 15 mins
I serve with that 5 minute wild rice mix and either a bag o salad or some steamed veggies - EASY and IMPRESSIVE!
i dont have any recipies, but i like to marinade pork chops and such in a homeade marinade i whip together using pinapple juice, bbq, some actual marinade and spices. The pinapple taste is amazing in pork

Ditto! I have a very similar marinade I use on Pork Tenderloins....I also add some soy sauce to mine...that pineapple/pork combo is yummy!

Thanks for the recipe Bamabelle! I made the dish and it turned out great. Did you invent that yourself?? Cause that sauce really brings out the flavor in the chicken. It was some of the juiciest tender chicken I've had in a long time. So Kudos to you my friend!
P.S. - We ran out of the sauce pretty fast too. :-]
Yes, that is my own recipe, I'm so glad it turned out good for you!! I like it because it's so easy but still is impressive enough to serve for company. And yeah, that sauce is good for multiple uses Be careful, it's addictive....she might start expecting you to cook all the time!
