That's right! I'm that awesome! ;D
I was walking my dogs a few minutes ago when I saw this guy trying to squeeze between the security bars of my building. He was trying to get out of the garage, which isn't normaly that hard if you have a pass key. So, obviously this made me suspicious. The fact that he was carrying a car stereo confirmed any doubt I may have had. I stood and watched him for a few minutes before he noticed me and ran back into the building. I called the police and took my dogs in (the front door). After warning several of our friendly neighbor hookers, I went into the garage to see if I could find him. Yeah, I know. That was VERY stupid! After looking around for a minute, I heard him running behind me. I have no idea why but, I started chasing him. This time, he slipped through the gate quite easily and ran down the street.
I'm a 230 lb man in crocs but, somehow I caught-up to him. He tried to jumpa fence and fell, so I just dove on him. I just wrapped my arms and legs around the bony little prick and held-on. Evidentally some woman heard him screaming "let go!", "I didn't do nothing!" and "I'll kill you!" and called the cops herself.
In no more than 3 or 4 minutes a cruiser pulled-up in the alley. As soon as the cop grabbed the guy, he was like "yeah, I been breaking into sh!t." and that was it. The officer said that he knew the guy and that this is what he does, so it didn't surprise him.
While he had a stereo when I first saw him, when the cop searched him, he only had a pair of sunglasses, a watch, a remote and several roles of quarters on him. All of which, he admitted to stealing from cars in the neighborhood. The cop said that he had probably ditched the cd player/stereo somewhere after he saw me watching him and that they couldn't do anything until it was reported missing.
The officer was amazed that I chased the guy down, considering he hadn't stolen anything from my car. He shook my hand several times and kept going-on about how I was a service to my community. He seemed VERY surprised by my actions. Honestly, now that I'm sitting here thinking about it, I am too. It is not like me to try and play mr. crimefighter or anything. Since we've lived in this building, there has been alot of cars broken into. I guess that's what did it.
Anyway, That's my story for the night...and One that I'll probably tell for years.
Rest easy, citizens of Earth. Oatmeal is watching over you!

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. So hit me with music. Hit me with music, now, yeah. Hit me with music. Brutalize me with music.
Good job....My house was burglarized last summer...We were actually sleeping and I opened my bedroom door to an intruder........I say you should have given him a couple of cheap shots to knock some sense into him....crack or meth heads ugh
j/k ;D good work oats. stupid though. it wasnt worth it. now if he had your stereo or cd book then id say get him. maybe not the stereo. but if see someone making of with my cds ill hunt them down.
Outstanding!! As a former Officer I can say from experience, It takes a real citizen to do something they know could be the end of them, just for the sake of others. Well done!
