I too thought john Mayer sucked, and then I saw him in concert and became a convert. He is quite talented live; like many other musicians the stuff that somehow gets on the radio ends up being the corniest songs from the CD.
ditto... i saw him at a small club in 2002 and was instantly sold. i loved when he stopped in the middle of the set to cover "message in a bottle" solo and all the girls who had been screaming his name and saying i love you only seconds before had no idea what the song was nor what was happening at that exact moment... ;D
he's a very talented musician, and i might go see him and Ben Folds here in a few weeks...
