I've finally taken the plunge and figured out how to burn a CD, Bittorrents, and all that good stuff. I've been in a happy music frenzy for a couple weeks now. The problem is that I'm starting to run out of room on my hard drive and in my CD book. I have a ton of CD sleeves but they are just laying there loose.
Who has a creative way to store all this kick-ass music I'm acquiring?

well, you could get an external hard drive for your computer to use solely for music. They're not too expensive, altho I don't have an accurate price. A lot of my friends use this approach, though.
a decent external will cost anywhere from $80 - to $150.00 - I have been looking around and comparing because a friend came to the house with his external and it was awesome to have all his music there at my fingertips to pick and choose from

^^Thanks for the price verification on externals Meg, it's a bit higher than I was thinking, but still totally worth it I think. I plan on doing that when I run out of space on my computer, however I bought my computer with this in mind and it's rocking a nice 200 GB hard drive so hopefully I won't have to worry about it too soon
There are several externals here - I have been looking at the Western Digital Passport because that is the one that my friend brought over and it was so easy - just plug and play

I say use DVDs for backup if you can get a DVD burner. 1 DVD holds about 4.4 gigs of data, compared to 800 megs on CD. I've been backing up my music onto DVDs for safekeeping, and I still have more than 100 DVDs in slimline cases for music alone.

I've got the same problem as alyroo. Over the years I've managed to accumulate what I believe to be somewhere between 700-800 CDs. I've started ripping them onto my hard drive. I've got about 40 gigs on there now, but I still have hundreds to go, and I'm gonna run out of room. I've been thinking about the external drive. One of my friends just got one, seems pretty cool. I don't have a DVD burner and those aren't really cheap either (plus the cost of the DVDs). If I had to pick one or the other, which one should I get?
