I am in need of a pair of good music-listening headphones for my ipod and music on my computer.
I don't plan on spending more than $100. I'm not finding many reliable reviews on headphones - CNET's focuses on a few brands - some not that good. I've had small Philips surround sound earbuds for about a year, they sound great for buds but they do not like to stay in my ears for long periods. I'd prefer something that attached to my ears or goes over my head.
Does anyone have any they can suggest? I'd love a set of Bose but they are a bit out of my price range, and I'm afraid I'd be too rough on them.

I know you say you don't want buds, but take a look at the Shure E2c. I spent some time learning how to inssert them properly (usng your left hand to pull out your right earl-flap and vice versa) and now when I use the orange foam sleeves, they stay in whatever I'm doing. The sound is tremendous also. Usually $99.
Not too big, comfy, sound great, and what I really love is that they do a great job of keeping other sounds out. I love using them on planes, sometimes without music for sleeping, I can't hear other people or the buzzing sounds the plane makes.
I got mine for free, but it looks like they run from $8-$20

In the affordable range, from my recent research (for my headphones for my amp) sennheiser, akg and audio-technica seem to be the big three for price/quality/sound....of course you can go for the bose etc....but it's not usually worth it IMO.....skullcandy seems to have a lot on the market lately, don't have a lot of info or reviews yet tho'.....
Also - my local FYE *shudder* has the skullcandy earbuds on sale. Marked down to $9.99 from $29.99. I took a gamble. They seem to be a model that is being discontinued - but my store still had lots of em.
I'm impressed with the sound quality. They let in very little sound, are totally secure in my ears, and the sound is great. Someone was right - I hadn't found the right pair of earbuds.
Totally worth the $10, and perhaps even the original $30. Check your local FYE if you have one. I'll be getting one of the bigger headsets for home music - they had those but not the purple color.

Thanks for bumping this thread, I almost forgot to post a review of my Skullcandy Hesh headphones which I posted a picture of earlier in the thread. They look awesome, as you can see by the picture. They are really comfortable, and the sound is pretty good especially considering they are only 40 dollar headphones (off amazon.com, new: www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-SC-BHESH07-Hesh-Headphones-Black/dp/B000OYFOZS/ref=sr_1_2/103-8483851-8228618?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1188092116&sr=8-2). They definitely are somewhat noise canceling, although when I have the volume turned up I can't hear much going on. For instance, I have a fan running right behind me in my dorm room (no air conditioning ) and it completely blocks it out. I can vaguely hear stuff going on in the hall if it is really loud. You have to bang on my door to get my attention if I am listening to music. I hope that helps potential buyers out, if you have any other questions fee free to ask.

Karma for the tip indigo! I needed a new pair of buds, mine have been badly abused, got a short from being ripped out of my Ipod a few too many times My FYE had a ton of them too, got some cut pink ones for $10.....looks like they already had the newer model, repacked and a few more bells and whistles, for the $30....didn't look like that much more for the $$. Had some of the headphones too. Might have to check those out next, but they were $50 and $70....think I'll go online for those....

I have a pair of Skullcandy Smokin' Bud Ear Bud Headphones which are good. Not as durable as I would hope for but definitely good sound quality and also a pair of Sennheiser Open-Aire, Supra-Aural Wireless Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones which are the best headphones besides Bose that i've ever owned. Both bought off Best Buy's website.
