Been a nightmare of a week. My girlfriend's friend Kenny (I'd never met him) died on Wednesday after crashing (we initially thought he'd been hit by a car) on Friday on his bike. There's ben an outpouring of love (he was an up and coming comedian) but like goddamn I'm so sick of people dying in bike accidents.
Apparently it was an E-bike accident without a car involved (he just...crashed?) and it was a few blocks from where we live. I don't know if he was wearing his helmet or not. But please y'all. Be careful. Wear the helmet. Maybe skip the e-bike and go analogue.
I am so sorry for your loss.
It is, unfortunately, easy to hit something in the road and crash with no vehicle involved. I've done it on my analogue. You are right, always wear a helmet.

My VP passed a few months ago after a bike accident, no car involved. I don't have any information beyond that though. Hugs to your girlfriend.
Sorry to hear about your VP. We haven’t gotten a lot of info either - we thought it was a hit & run at first but the EMS & witnesses didn’t report that and there’s been no police investigation. I’m hoping we’ll get more details as it’s a fairly high profile death, compared to the other bike deaths this year (what a fucking awful thing to write).

This is why those electric rental scooters should be fully banned. Among other reasons (like people being dickheads and intentionally parking them in rude places)

My second biggest fear when I bike besides getting hit by a car or getting doored (which happened to me 12 years ago and I still have physical and emotional scars from that) is hitting a pothole and going flying into my death.

My house note is going to $500/month starting next month! Wtf? It was $1100. Insurance, property value and taxes all increased. My favorite part. If I pay $3500 four days before February 1, it'll only go up $200/month.
How the fuck is anybody supposed to be able to basically come up with another half of what they were paying?! Film needs to come back now. I'm fucking in trouble.

Yes. My insurance doubled, my property value increases and my taxes doubled. $500/month. 😭

It's crazy, I was helping a friend to look at apartments for rent recently and an apartment I looked at 4 year's ago was going for $1,300...now it's $2,600...doubled in 4 years?! Excuse me
As mad as I am right now, I'm already looking at just going full electric this go round. So silver lining, I guess.
Did your battery go out? I’m waiting for mine to shit the bed all of the way. So much doesn’t work on it but it is still ticking somehow. 18 years old and 300,000 miles. I want another one but my parents gave me their Ford Escape, which somehow has less cargo space than the Prius.
RIP to your car. Can’t wait to see what you end up with!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

It did. There’s rebuilds for a lot cheaper than what I was quoted but I’m not feeling safe going that route.
I’m committed to the change though. It’ll be a few months of single family car but in the long run, it’s worth it.

Do not get a rebuild. Don’t want to burn your house down.

Taking an online class this semester that uses the Lockdown browser for its weekly quizzes. Super annoying to use that thing because it doesn't have cookies and my school requires very complicated passwords and dual factor authentication so it's a pain to log in every time. Worst part is, the quizzes are open book, so what's the fucking point of using the Lockdown browser if it's not to prevent cheating! The professor even said we can use another device during the quizzes if we own the book digitally, so what's the fucking point!!!
Cracked a tooth today for the first time. It’s back second to last molar inside bottom left. It had been hurting if bit down on that side, so maybe the filling had fallen out. But now I can get my top of my tongue into that gap. Dental bills coming for me.

That's madness. My mortgage payment has gone up about $200 now in the mere three years since I bought the house, and I thought that was bad.
While it's nice that values have gone up dramatically here in that time, that equity is useless right now. It's not like anyone in my position is going to sell (voluntarily), because then we'd be buying another property that has skyrocketed in the last few years, at a much higher interest rate than was available just a couple years ago. Meanwhile, like you said, taxes and insurance have gone up, too, and I think we're due for new tax valuations that will be ugly.

I own, but rent in this are has become ridiculous. WalletHub just ranked US cities from best to worst for renters, and Cleveland was 181 out of 182 while Akron was 178. A friend in Akron has been paying $2200/month for a very average 3 bedroom house with a small yard in a sketchy neighborhood. Houses like this were $500-$600 a month not that long ago.
My mortgage, in a much better area and with a big yard, isn't nearly that much. She's about to move to a slightly cheaper and smaller house in the same areas, but man rent is high and everyone wants extra deposits and insane pet fees. I have no idea how anyone pays rent now without having multiple adult roommates or a really great job.

My wife was diagnosed with rectal cancer three weeks ago. Initially it was colon cancer, which would have likely been surgery and done. Instead, with rectal cancer, it's radiation with a chemo pill, then chemo infusions, then possibly surgery. She has a good prognosis but I'm really angry at the world right now.

Fuck man. Sorry she's having to go through this. Sorry for both of you. Worrying about a loved one in this situation is a mindfuck. We're all here for you in what ways a bunch of online misfits can be. This can be a good place to blow off steam and vent to folks when the world weighing you down. Plus there are people here with similar experiences that could lend an ear as well. Love ya.

I’m glad her prognosis is good. Cancer treatments have advanced so far. Even still, it’s an awful thing to have to deal with. I don’t blame you one bit for being angry. Sending big virtual hugs.

One of my coworker's daughters was diagnosed with rectal cancer a year or two ago when she was 29 or 30. Things looked rough for her for a bit, but she is currently in remission and living her life. As has been said, cancer treatments have come such a long way. Glad her prognosis is good, but I totally understand being angry at everything.

I am so sorry. I was diagnosed with colon cancer 21 years ago. She can get through this, with your support. I was "lucky" since I only needed surgery. But I did wind up with a temporary colostomy. If she needs anyone to talk to about it, send me a PM. I would be glad to share with her what I went through and how you make it out the other side.

Fuck. I love you and will be holding your wife and you and your family deep in my heart and keeping you all on my mind. The two of you have already had too much bullshit to deal with.

Like others have said: FUCK CANCER.
I’ll be sendin’ the most positive energy and love your way.
