my computer is old. and anti virus stuff either dosent work or competely screws my pc up. so ive got tons of adware and what not. but today someone opened my web browser and was doing ebay searches for 'cheap phentermine' i had no idea what it was aso i looked it up and its an amphetamine of some sorts. i assume used to make meth. i was like holy shit! im wondering how this is possible and if it has something to do with forwarding a bunch of ports for oink. a friend suggested that might have soemthign to do with it. ive never heard of a computer being taken over and used for illegal searches and shit. well ive heard of it but not from anyone i know personally. this is nuts. anyone with some knowledge have any clue how i might be able to prevent this??
If you can, download spybot. It's small and it doesn't run all the time if you don't want it to. It does a bang-up job of finding the bad stuff and getting rid of it.
Dude, my husband has a new computer and every fire wall and anti virus software you can get on it. Someone still managed to hijack his web browser, and took it to porn sites so don't feel bad. You must be using broad band because no one would bother doing this to you with dial up. It can happen when you open up an e-mail or go to certain websites. And phentermine is a diet pill. They don't make meth out of it, if that make ya feel any better. So the person that hijacked your computer is just a fat jack ass! Get spy speeper by webroot. You can get a free trial version of it on the internet. Does a real good job. If you are running something older than windows xp though it wont help ya
One of the nice things about Firefox are the extensions/add-ons that let you customize your browsing experience. I have 3 extensions that strip ads, block some hijackers and minimizes annoying Flash pages:
Just a little info about phentermine - not used to make meth - it is speed all by itself - it is a weightloss drug/appitite suppresent - perfectly legal and you can actually get a prescription from your doc if you are overweight.
I've seen those. It's not someone using your computer to search, it's good old pop-up spam, made to look like a search. They want to sell you phentermine, not buy it.
If you stick with Internet Explorer, you can go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and set some of the options to prompt you when java applets are run or when browser windows are opened or someone tries to go to a new domain....also you can set security options for certificates and such....it's a pain, but it will protect you from unknown scripts running on your computer which is USUALLY what kicks off those types of searches and spams....
firefox + addblock, flashblock, and noscript addons + delete windows forever and you should be good to go.
if your computer is already infected with something, only way to be 100% sure is to start clean, but if you run spybot and AVG free and stuff, hopefully it will be enough.

thank you all for you help. i assumed it was an illegal thing because why would soeone use my computer for something legal. its good to know its just another annoying popup. i guess it wouldnt make much sense for something used in meth would be for sale on ebay. im kinda slow sometimes i already use firefox abd try to delete internet explorer but it always seems to resurrect itself from the dead. but i will try the addons i have not used any of them yet. and im using windows 2000 (i told ya my pc sucked) but i think oink has some programs that will work to clean things up a bit. thanx all!
I saw that someone already mentioned this, but I asked my bf (who very skilled with computers.) He suggested that you download avg free anti-virus and spybot search and destroy
