We just tried to watch the Bob Saget standup thing on HBO. We made it through about 15 minutes before we had to change the channel because it was so awful. All he does is say fvck over and over again. I've got no problem with someone wanting to say fvck, but if you are doing standup, you should try throwing something funny in between those fvcks!
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Wow. I had such high hopes after seeing his work in Full House.
LMAO! Just what I was thinking....Bob Saget....Stand up... ??? And anyone expected this to be a good thing? OK, Snark off....
Since I am too cheap to get HBO or any of the "premium" cable channels, since I so rarely watch TV other than CNN or Food Network, it was a treat when I went to ATL recently to see Bill Maher's standup special on HBO/Showtime/whatever.....It was a hoot! I LOVE Bill Maher! I know it's probably been out FOREVER since I don't ever have a chance to see any of that stuff, but I had never seen it......really funny stuff! Especially the Walmart on the Mexican Border....brilliant solution to the immigration problems! Instead of the 270 (0r whatever) long mile wall that is WAAAY too short, build a 1700 foot long Walmart (the length of the actual border) have the customers come in the front and the workers come in through the back....same as always! Brilliant! ;D

Clever....and witty.
That's the point. I've heard so many people say "don't judge him on those sh!tty shows. he's raunchy as hell, man. you'll love his stand-up." After seeing his scene in "The Aristocrats", We thought that we should give him another chance. So we did. It seems like we were proven right this time(again). He's a total hack, who just talks about people's "misconceptions" of him while childishly uttering obscenities over and over again. He sucked.....no matter how much he changed directions. That was her point all along. That's why she started the thread. Unlike you, we were actually trying to form (or reform) an opinion based on something from within the last decade.
No one was talking about his work on "America's Funniest Home Videos" or "Full House". EVERYONE knows that those shows were some of the shittiest in history. Pointing out something that obvious is alot like saying that 'boy bands' suck. It's redundant, useless, obvious and safe.
I think she was just trying to say "Hey, against my better judgement and on the recommedations of others, I gave him the benefit of the doubt...and he confirmed what I always knew/thought/felt to be true." Could you possibly be so self-absorbed, cocky and arrogant that you didn't understand that?
Most of the time I dig you, Stallion, but sometimes you need to take a deep breath, count to 10 and think before you start sarcastically insulting and trivializing other people's opinions. Chill out, man. No one challenged or questioned you in any way but, you still felt the need to step in and essentially say "no sh!t, moron." Why?
For real, man. That sh!t was rude, unnecessary and childish.

Damn Jesus! Are you serious? Were you really drunk when you wrote that? He was making a joke. I happened to think it was funny. I think everyone is in agreement that Bob Saget does indeed suck. I may not always agree with Stallion's opinions, but I never really thought he was being rude or insulting. And I don't see how this insults Hilari's opionion. ??? Looks to me that he agrees with her. Afterall the title of the thread is "Wow! Bob Saget Sucks!
Actually, before I even got to Jesus's post, my reaction to Stallion's post was very much the same. Here's the way it seemed to me:
I posted that I decided to give Bob Saget's standup a chance and realized that it was really bad. (Although I didn't say so, the reason I gave it a chance in the first place was because he was actually really funny in the movie "The Aristocrats." Granted, everyone was telling the same joke, but his version was really funny. I knew that his standup was supposed to be really raunchy, and sometimes I find that funny. Watching the show, I realized it was just raunchy for the sake of raunchy without any of the funny.)
To me, Stallion's post read as, "No sh!t. It was so obvious that his standup was going to suck. I can't believe you would have even given that a chance." Now granted, I may have (and Jesus may have) read more into that post than Stallion intended, but I think it is fair to say that the "No sh!t" part was a pretty reasonable interpretation.
The thing is, and this is obvious, I know, but everything we say here is typed so that it loses any kind of inflection, and we don't have the benefit of seeing a person when they make a statement. So, sometimes, when someone thinks they are just making a joke or saying something in a lighthearted way, it doesn't come across that way without that context.
Based on the words alone, from my perspective, Stallion's post seemed like an insult. I was asleep when Stallion made the post and Jesus responded, but it seems to me that Jesus was just trying to stick up for his girl, and I hope that you would not blame him for that.

I just thought his reaction was a bit over the top. I don't fault him for defending you, but I don't think Stallion's comment was worthy of being called a pretentious a$$hole. If Jesus has a difference of oppinion, shouldn't he be able to express it without being rude and childish himself?
First off, got ya back to 69 chef Second, Bog Saget's stand up is indeed dreadful! Third, I don't think stallion was trying to be mean, but as you say, on a computer you miss the tone Fourth, I am off to go enjoy this beautiful day

Just for the record.
Maybe the 'Pretentious asshole' remark was out of line. I was just trying to make the point that a 1-line response with no explanation or emoticons can come across worse than it was originally intended. For instance, If i had just posted the 'pretentious asshole' sentence and left it at that alone, I would expect everyone to take offense, see me as being insulting and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on when it came time to defend myself. While I did make a blatantly inflammatory remark, I did try to explain where I was coming from at least. I was honestly just trying to make a point that sarcasm and 'good natured' ribbing are hard to express in print and that, no matter what Stallion was actually trying to say, it came across as insulting and rude to both of us.
Maybe I failed in my efforts and, if so, I apologize. I am now going to edit that part of my original post, in the interest of peace. I do, however, stand by everything else I said in that post.

Wow. I never thought I'd piss anoyne off bismirtching the good name of Bob Sagat! It was just my way of remarking that I wasn't too surprised by the news that his standup is lousy. Any insult to anyone else is purely imagined.

Just to be as clear as possible. NO ONE was criticizing you on your views of Bob Saget. I was, pretty clearly I think, taking issue with the way you responded. If you want to try and convince yourself or others that you weren't trying to be a smartass, that's cool with me. We all (should) know the truth. If nothing else, It became pretty damn appparent when you chose to you clearly mock how Hilari named the thread by started-off with an obviously sarcastic and mean-spirited "WOW!"
"Purely Imagined"? That is the very definition of dismissive. If you or anyone else can't see that, I'm sorry.
I'm genuinely not trying to start anything with anyone here but, I'm also definitely not the kind of person who is going to sit back and tolerate my girlfriend (or anyone that I care about) being treated like an idiot.
I'm done here.

haha i saw bob saget's act at my school last yr. he was sorta funny, but extremely awkward. it was weird to think that this was the guy who played danny tanner on full house and was a clean freak. over opinion on my campus afterward was that he was really creepy. he said the EFF word entirely too much and harassed the audience too much. before the show i checked out some of his skits online and most all of them were exactly the same one he did at our school. overall, i'd have to agree that Saget sucked! hahah

was not insulting anybody here. I am truly sorry if that's how it came across. I think we could all use some lightening up. No hard feelings.

I actyally agree with Keith on something - OMG! I also just took it as a joke really - a "one-liner" if you will cuz when I forst read Hilari's post - I though she was joking - I had no idea Bob Saget did stand up - and the idea of him cussing like a sailor was pretty amuzing to me. LOL
I think it was taken far too personally by Oatey in defense of his love.
We all know Stallion is goodhearted and funny, as well as wickedly astute, from the bulk of his other posts.
No harm, no foul from where I stand. If we can't say, "Well , duh" to a sentiment that is fairly obvious, for the sake of being humorously smart assed, I don't know why I'm even here amongst some of the most supposedly tolerant minds in the USA.
Seems to me, a case of the taking it personally's. Oatey's fired back defense was far more personally charged in my opinion. But I can also chalk that up to chivalry, knowing that he has to live with Hillary and not Stallion.

wow!
actually i heard bob saget's standup was a little better in the past... now he's a household name with Full House playing 24 hours a day... hence the 'misconceptions'
apparanetly the producers took issue with his and Dave Couilers behavior on the set of full house during the early years
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

DAMN FIREFOX NOT LETTING ME ALT+S ANYMORE TO POST
In The Aristocrats (it's a movie Penn and Teller made with a bunch of different comedians telling the same joke. It's supposed to be the dirtiest joke ever), his version of the joke was actually pretty funny.
I think he just tries to overcompensate for his Full House image in his standup, so he throws a fvck out about every second or third word. Plus, his jokes were just very awkward and wierd. I think they used the only decent joke (he says that his 80 year old father asked him "if your mom and I are having sex, and we're taping it, and she falls out of bed funny, can we win a million dollars?") in the ads for the show.
What does Alt+S do?
edit: I was typing this when Becca posted. The Aristocrats, besides the Bob Saget part, is really funny. I recommend it (it is pretty dirty though)
