Any chance I can get ya to elaborate on specific issues you are having.
I just bought a new Imac after a pc crash. So far-ok. Not TOTALLY impressed by any means... I HAVE come to the conclusion that their phone support SUCKS.
Seems I AM gonna have to buy more software than before just to interface with the pc world(no included reader of word doc.s-wtf?)
I have a pc at home, a mac at work (designer). I have the pc so that I have more gaming flexibility, although I appreciate working on the mac. Both systems have their flaws.
What troubles you having in the pc world?
I've had trouble opening those doc.s files even on pc's.

Biggest trouble for me was that my pc was 10 years old. I tried to pull a leak of the new Ben Harper and got ZAPPED ! Now my pc just goes thru a restart cycle never letting the system registry fix itself. So i started effing around with the BIOS menu and now I'm really hit. Gotta get my dude to dump, cleanse, and reimage.
Biggest issues so far with the MAC are just learning applications, missing my right click, other adaptation issues. Even though it has the superdrive dvd burner and INCLUDED software, seems I will HAVE to buy TOAST to really do the level of burning I was used to. Can't find a free FLAC converter. I guess that will also be included in Toast (for a mere 90 bills). They touted the Mac as able to run both OSx and xp via BOOTCAMP. But now that I have it, seems I only get a 30 day trial of WORD MAC, which allows me to view word docs. Don't know what that'll cost me eventually. And never really liked the way quicktime and real player were so pissy. But now I'm stuck with them. Plus I haven't stepped up to I pods yet-so am kinda bummed the way Itunes wants to run EVERYTHING. Guess I just have to adapt and overcome. Seems like Macs don't allow you to eff with too much, and that's why they probably crashh so infrequently. Also distrust putting it to "sleep" instead of shutting it down. Is that why I should expect my hardware to only last 3-5 years? Or am I doing it more potential harm to shut it down all the time. Also feels a little more big brother than the pc....
Any opinions ? Will I come around the bend once i learn the apps better ?

I have had my MacBook Pro for almost a year now. I like it a lot. I cant really say I love it any more than my pc tho. The applications are tricky to get used to...theres just not that many out there for macs.
Snoochio I suggest downloading OpenOffice. It's a free version of office....it's not as good obviously but it's a damn good alternative especially if you dont want to fork out the money for the real program. Quicktime absolutely blows, I hate it with a passion. Download VLC media player and I think you would like that a lot more.
As far as iPod's go....My iPod has vastly improved the quality of my life and I don't like remembering life before iPod.
the one thing I can suggest is to adapt to how the mac does things rather than trying to incorporate your familiar pc software. OSX is quite capable of burning flexibly - it just may be done differently than you used to via a drag and drop.
The thing about running bootcamp and windows is that you have to own a legal copy of windows to install on the mac, on top of bootcamp. It's pricey.
Most of your music and video should transfer, as well as office files. Part of the difficulty is learning to work with the system rather than trying to buck the system.
And if you have the scroll apple mouse, you *can* right click. it's in your system preferences. if not, your apple key is your friend.

Just to clarify, OpenOffie is the PC open-source document program. NeoOffice is the Mac version of that program, and that's what you want. I use it as well, and while it can be slow and cumbersome, it does a hell of a lot of stuff for a free download. Plus you can read, edit AND save in lots of formats including .doc and even .wpd (WordPerfect).
I was in the same boat as you. I've been a PC guy all my life until not two months ago when I got a used iMac G5 from a friend. It has taken a LOT of getting used to, but it does happen. I know where all my stuff is and how to get to it quickly, I use the Apple commands reflexively, it's all just like it was on the PC, just different motions. Any other question, feel free to ask!
Wow, talk about hijacking a thread! Aren't we supposed to be discussing how Macs suck?

I hate Macs. I hate the Mac vs. PC ads with Justin Long being a dink to the older PC guy, cuz it's all lies. Macs suck. A lot.
That's all.
I'm with ya man, esp on the commercials (although I think John Hodgeman is hilarious in them). I especially resent how their always talking about how Macs are for fun and PCs are for work. Oh really/ Than why am I working on a Mac right now? Why has every school computer lab and newsroom filled w/ nothing but macs? and why are all the fun games not available for Mac?
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I have a PC at home and I'm a graphic artist so the Mac is at work. I have to restart my Mac no less than four times during my shift. It freezes up zooming in on something, opening folders, very simple operations. Applications crash incessantly. Fonts go corrupt randomly. The spinning beach ball... This is the third Mac upgrade we've had at my company since I started two years ago, and all the previous Macs were the same, as were the Macs I worked on for 6 years at my previous job.
Granted I don't use the same applications on my PC, but it is loaded up with high graphics games and I generally have several applications running at once. I never have problems with it, and it's much older than my Mac at work.
I love PCs. Bill Gates/Microsoft = Evil, however, but I won't start on that...
I haven't worked on a Mac since high school (ten years ago), so my opinion is a little out of date, but I loathed the ones we had then. I was one of the people on my school newspaper who was in charge of laying out the paper so that we could send it to the printers. The Macs we worked on would freeze all the time. We learned to save our work every couple of minutes, or we would end up laying out the paper over and over again.
I oughta be able to keep mine pretty fleet. It's got soooooo much memory and RAM, that I doubt I could tax it too bad. Granted, I'm coming off a 10 year old hybrid built pc with a pirate xp running on it. It was a Pentium II with like a 400meg processor and 40 gigs of hard drive.
Now I'm on a 2gig processor and have a gig of RAM and 250 gig hard drive.
If only I can find a good FREE flac converter, I oughta be good for about 150 shows and all the porn I can click on !!!!

Log Lady, Macs have indeed changed a lot in 10 years. You can pinpoint it to the release of the first iMac, and also, a few years ago, with the OS X.
My wife is a graphic designer as well, and a Mac nut. I know that she has had none of the problems you listed, messedupgirl. I don't know what else to tell you, other than not all Macs are like that. Perhaps you're just cursed?
And snoochio, try MacFLAC. It's free, not as nice as FLACFrontend for PC, but still does the job. And for a FLAC audio player I love Cog.

All the Macs I've used have been crap, but it's very possible and even more likely that I am cursed.
Or maybe it's an omen that I've been ignoring. A sign that I'm in the wrong business. But it's all good. I start classes (for a completely different career) next week! ;D

muchos grasias amigo ! karma for the hope ! so far so good, i guess. it WAS up and running with zero headaches ten minutes out of the box. recognized all my components. and the new imac design really does kick the last ones ass. plus it came with a 20 inch monitor for the same price as the old 17 incher. my pc picked the right week to sh!t the bed !
the thing with macs and graphics software is that age really shows on that stuff. if you don't quite have the system resources - like running photoshop on a macmini - you're going to have super duper issues.
I have an Intel iMac 20" and I love at work. cept that certain cd's make horrible noises when they're loaded - i think it's the silkscreening.
Although I did have a font go randomly corrupt, and never got it right again.
