So i'm sitting here thinking about it....... I really cannot decide what I want..... I know eventually I want to get the actually disk artwork (not the cover artwork) from Incubus' Morning View album...... but I don't think I want that to be my first..... Anyway, you guys have any suggestions/advice? Or seen any that really impressed you?
I am ink free, the thing that stops me is that i just can't decide what image would be important enough to wear forever. I can't even pick a spot to put it.

So, I said screw it
Good luck with that.
I'm having the same trouble.....and i've thought about how many people are inked and how it is somewhat comforming to get a tattoo but I do believe i want one anyway not like i'm going to get a heart or a generic tribal tramp stamp or barbed wire around my arm.....

lol... at least you're not going the tribal route.
Seriously tho, go to the studios and check out the artists work. They all have portfolios and would be happy to talk through your ideas. Talk to several of them, they all have a different style and speciality.
If you were in NC, I could recommend some brilliant tatto artists.
oh, and as an aside... read "Until I find You" by John Irving- It set within the tattoo world and is a damn good book
I have three and all three were thought out and have precious memories attached to them. Tattoos are addictive - I want to havemore work done on one but am still in the beginning stages of thinking about it.
Boz has 6 or 7 of them and I love them all (well - the alien eating the mushroom is a bit much)

I have one, and I love it. Got it about 4 months ago and can't imagine regretting it...it's a dancer, so it's something I've been attached to for quite awhile. Now I want another one!
I know there are different lines of thought on the issue: some people say put a lot of thought into it, some people say that if you want it, get it. My advice is that you make sure you know what you want, and then get it. Don't wait. I waited almost 2 years for mine and I wish I had gotten it sooner!

Agreed.... tattoos are addictive... a strange sort of enjoyable pain, like two hornets having a knife fight on your arm for an hour and a half. If you're honestly worried about the pain, I'd recommend a relatively small, simple design (star, ankh, infinity, Pi, etc.) somewhere cushy as a test piece (meaty parts supposedly hurt less than bony parts). Everyone has different pain thresholds, so it's really hard to answer the question 'does it hurt'?
I highly recommend going with original art, be it your own, or a talented friend, or even commissioning a piece from your prospective artist. Check with the artist regarding what colors work with your skin tone.
I've got one on my left arm earlier this year, and will probably get another one sometime in the new year on my right.
i've thought alot about inking myself but ive seen very few tatoos i like and fewer that i'd like on myself. I thought about starting from my feet up and going with kind of a nature plant tree flower animal thing that goes up to about my knee, and if someone designed one of those that looked real good i'd probly go for it. The lead singer for incubus has a nice one on his arm, i dont recall exactly what its of but i like the red ink, also someone posted some evolution graphiti on these boards not long ago, i think that'd make a cool tat.

I heard a quote the other day that said "getting a tattoo feels like someone has stuck the corner of a razor in your skin and is dragging it around." I though that was pretty accurate.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Yeah....I went and talked to an artist two days ago and he looked at it and said "you want original?.......you don't want that.....and I won't do it" I really liked him and his work and he dug the ideas I have...so maybe i've found my artist Thanks so much for the help you guys. The guy i went to had signs hanging up that said 'yes, it hurts like fvck' i'm not worried about the pain at all though. I have a high tolerance and i kind of enjoy it......
I got my first tattoo in college - I designed it. I took the doodles I did in my notebooks when i was supposed to be listening in class and elaborated. my only regret is the artist - instead of working with my sketch, he instead made a lithograph of it, slapped it on my back and did it exact - pencil strokes and sketchy edges and all. My husband says it looks like a prison tattoo, but I love it because I created it.
Next year I am getting it cleaned up and enlarged.
I used to use the PTA concept for all tattoos - what if I got married, had kids and was a passionate parent - president of the PTA and Girl Scout leader and all that. Would any tattoo I was considering be embarrassing/hokey/stupid/regrettable when a 45-year old PTA president? I know random, but really a tattoo you are intimate with will never be regretted, even if it looks like a prison tattoo.
My friend has some wicked jester on his leg. He thought it was cool and saw it in an induced state and wanted it memorialized. A decade later he hates it and is reminded of his stupidity each time he pulls on his pants. So stop and think the reason behind it. If it's right, it will never be wrong. Good luck!

pick something that means alot to you.or portrait of loved one.my next will be portrait of daughter.olso want portraits of grandparents, but meg might not let me cover that much skin as she likes me naked sometimes
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

To alie: Yeah, i've thought a lot about the regrets and what not and have come to the same conclusion, if i really love it and have thought about it as much as i am then it won't be wrong.
To boz: I thought about portraits but i don't have anyone that means that much to me as of now....maybe in the future though. And yeah, i don't plan on being covered head to toe..... someone might like me naked someday too

There is a single tattoo that impressed me. It happened when I was very young. My friend's father, whose physique, I am sad to say, was much like mine own is now, had a tattoo of the Battleship North Carolina on what at one time was his chest. He would sit on a lawn chair and call us over when we played stickball. He would say, "you want to see what it is like when a ship is at sea?" He would then roll his flabs of fat around.
Does this provide a good picture for you why I never got a tattoo and have advised my kids that they may wish they didn't at some later point in life? They fade, they spread, they change with our bodies. They are permanent. How do you pick one that when you change and it changes it still looks OK and you still look OK?
I rode motorcycles for some time. I hung out in places with bikers. Some of them are about as young as I am. Their tattoos are impressive. Some in unflattering ways.
It also becomes something that can identify you as you should you ever want to be incognito.

I've always been anti-tattoo. I think they detract from natural beauty. My dad had a tattoo on his arm. It was the standard heart with a sword through it. It had a banner across it with the name Anne. The problem is my mom and his wife of almost 50yrs is named June....ooops.
Having said all of that, my dad died this year. I have been thinking of getting a tattoo of his face on my arm. I have an excellent photo of him when he was in Viet Nam. It is now just a matter of finding a tattoo artist that I trust enough to get it right.
